There is extensive onsite multi-disciplinary support provided by the paediatric services that includes allergy, haematology, infectious disease, radiology, ophthalmology, genetics, neurology, epilepsy, ENT, surgery and others.
Dietetic, speech and language therapy and physiotherapy services are provided on site.
Fundraising and charitable endeavours on behalf of staff and families are supported by the trust which has raised large sums of money for all major developments in the service.
The Paediatrics children services at LNWUH includes:
- Paediatrics ward (Jacks Place): 12 cubicles, 4 bays with 15 Beds
- Paediatrics ED: 4 assessment beds 4 short stay beds
- CCL2: 4 beds (incorporated within current bed allocation with plan for new built for separate 4 bedded area)
- Paediatrics assessment unit (PAU
- Rainbow ward): 8 Beds
- Daycare: 4 beds
- Paediatrics oncology shared care unit (POSCU): 2 short stay daycare beds
- The unit will be moving to Cerner EPR by August 202
- Playroom
- In progress safe room and low sensory room
- Paediatrics Respiratory and Asthma/Allergy Clinics
- Long term ventilation clinics may include home visits
- CCL2 service lead once implemented
- General Paediatrics Clinics
- Administrative duties
- Consultant of the week cover for acute Paediatrics at Northwick Park Hospital 08:00 18:00 hrs, shared with colleagues on an approximate 1 in 9 bases, Mo to Fr
- Paediatrics emergency department rota cover: approximately 20 shifts and 17:3022:00 approximately 30 shifts (may vary) in 42 weeks
- Oncall duties for Paeds shared with colleagues on an approximate 1 in 12 basis Mo to Fri, 17.30 hours until 08.00 hours off site cover
- Oncall duties, 1 in 9 weekends.
Weekend on calls include 2 types of shifts:
on site cover followed by offsite cover and on-site Paediatrics emergency department
- Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients
- To share with colleagues' responsibility for the daytoday management of patients
- To promote new ways of working and coordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community
- Take part in multidisciplinary case meetings
- Supervise and train junior medical staff
- To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors and teaching.
- To proactively develop the service
- To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
