Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to work at the Lighthouse, part of Paediatric and Adolescent Services at University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The role has become available on a fixed-term basis to allow the service to increase capacity in order to meet demand. It would be an ideal secondment opportunity for a candidate interested in development in the area of safeguarding and sexual abuse.

Main duties of the job

To be a key member of the children's and young people's multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively with colleagues to support the development of the Lighthouse (Child House) Work in partnership with external agencies to ensure the safety of children and young people by appropriate sharing of information and attending or supporting the attendance at relevant meetings Use evidence based advanced knowledge, leadership and decision-making skills to deliver personalised therapeutic and holistic interventions for CYP who have experienced sexual abuse. To ensure a seamless patient pathway of care is provided when undertaking complex activities and interventions for CYP who have experienced sexual abuse To deliver clinical care working with the consultant team and with support from members of the multidisciplinary team. Develop, plan and deliver agreed protocols and guidelines in conjunction within national guidelines . Work as part of the Multi Agency Team to ensure that the views of CYP are able to influence the development of practice within Child House. The post holder will promote the concept of clinical governance and facilitate the implementation of the UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy. To respond to the developing changes in relation to other areas of complex safeguarding as required

The Lighthouse Service

The Lighthouse is a specialist service within the Paediatric and Adolescent Division. It is the first UK Child House, a multi-professional, child-centred and trauma-informed service for children and young people who have experienced child sexual abuse and a national leader in the field. The Lighthouse provides a holistic health assessment, physical and mental health support, advocacy and police interviews led by clinical psychologists. This child-centred model has had proven success abroad, in particular Iceland, where there is evidence of increased convictions and improved health and well-being for children and young people.

The Lighthouse Team

The service is jointly managed by the Lighthouse Operational Manager and the Clinical Lead. The Lighthouse service includes a CAMHS team of therapists (including Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrist, CAMHS practitioners), Lived Experience Consultant, Paediatricians, Clinical Nurse Specialist for sexual health, Child and Family Practitioners, Play Specialist, and access to Letting the Future In practitioners (NSPCC) in the Lighthouse.

The Lighthouse uniquely works in a truly integrated multi-disciplinary way and the postholder will work closely with colleagues from our ChISVA, case management and psychological therapies teams, providing rich opportunity for interdisciplinary learning and integrated care for children and young people.

Paediatric and Adolescent Division

The Paediatric & Adolescent division, together with Womens Health, Queen Square division, the Heart Hospital, the Eastman Dental Hospital and the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear hospital form the Specialist Hospitals Clinical Board.

The paediatric and adolescent division covers over 30 specialties and employs approximately 400 staff to deliver local, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care for children and young people. The specialities are organised into reporting units such as General Paediatrics and Adolescents, Children and Young Peoples Cancer, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Adolescent Endocrinology and Diabetes, Adolescent Medicine and a number of specialist services.

oRN (child) / RGN with extensive experience in paediatric and / or adolescent care o1st level registration with NMC oDegree level education or on program to complete degree
