An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physiotherapist to join our Community Health Services at East London NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a Band 6 Physiotherapist with a broad clinical experience across: orthopedics, neurology, respiratory as well as care of the elderly and enjoy the challenges of providing rehabilitation to people in their own homes.

The EPCT Therapy Team covers a range of healthcare needs including rehabilitation at home, palliative care, falls prevention, admission avoidance, management of long-term conditions and support towards self-management. Experience in all these areas is desirable.

You will be supported by experienced Band 7 Physiotherapists, and work alongside a dedicated team of other Band 6 & 7 Physiotherapists, as well as nurses from the wider integrated team. In your role you will be responsible for rehab support workers and students. This will offer you the opportunity to develop your supervisory and managerial skills.

If you are an enthusiastic Physiotherapist with a motivation to work and develop as part of an innovative and integrated health and social care team, then this role is for you.

Potential candidates should have current HPC registration and ideally be a current member of CSP and specialist interest group, along with evidence of post-graduate study. You must have experience working within the NHS across a number of clinical areas, and at least 18 months post-graduation.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • To manage a defined caseload using evidence based /client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, maintaining associated records.
  • To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to the specialist caseload across various sites within Tower Hamlet as the service requires.
  • To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualized treatment program.
  • To provide leadership for more junior staff, as agreed with senior staff.
  • To deputies for the Senior Physiotherapists in their absence as required.
  • To supervise Physiotherapy students on clinical placements.
  • To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in the in service training scheme.
  • To undertake lone working when required.
  • To be able to work flexibly and participate in potential future 7 day working developments (when required)

  • To be professionally and legally be accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with legal requirements and Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards of practice
  • To understand the legal framework around gaining informed consent for treatment and to implement appropriate procedures in line with trust policies
  • To have a comprehensive understanding of patients clinical presentations based upon advanced clinical knowledge
  • To develop specialist knowledge of particular conditions and patient presentations specific to different diagnoses and treatments
Person Specification Education/ Qualification/ Training Essential
  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Member of HCPC
  • Evidence of CPD maintained portfolio including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to this post
Experience Essential
  • 12-18 months' minimum clinical experience in a broad range of specialties & the ability to work as a key person within the scope of practice in the Multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of a broad range of clinical conditions particularly working with older people and multi-pathologies
  • Experience working in a client centred care, within a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience in conducting appraisal & supervision for junior members of staff
Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Ability to manage own workload, flexibility and use initiative to problem solve.
  • Ability in delivering teaching & training to wide range of multidisciplinary team
  • Good interpersonal and strong communication skills
  • Ability to plan, coordinate a range of complex activities in relation to clinical and operational work.
  • Awareness of potential hazards including frequent verbal aggression and risk of physical aggression in settings such as the clients home, community venues, public transport etc.), whilst ensuring safety of self, client and members of the public.
  • Ability to assist clients who are frail or who requires assistance with activities of daily living and to apply a Rehabilitation approach in a generic Health care professional role
  • Information Technology skills e.g. word-processing/excel etc
  • An understanding of the current changes within the NHS
  • An understanding of the needs of Tower Hamlet's culturally diverse population
  • Understanding of Health and Safety issues in relation to working in a client's home
  • Knowledge of statutory and voluntary agencies that may be involved in supporting older people at home
