SEMH Teaching Assistant

Your new company

Hays Education are supporting a specialist school in recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work with them on a long term basis until the end of the academic year and potentially longer.

The school is in Birmingham and is a small specialist unit cateringfor children at KS3 and KS4 with SEMH. They describe themselves as a focused and committed school who have young people at the centre of their ethos.

They spoke confidently about the supportive team of staff currently in post and look forward to welcominga new addition to the team.


Your new role

In this extremely rewarding role, you will be supporting the teaching and learning of National Curriculum and GCSE lessons to pupils working in KS3/KS4.

There will be responsibilities within the classroom in supporting some pupils with additional needs amongsttheir peers with an aim to build positive, meaningful relationships with the students and to develop social integration to aid their progression into the next stage of education.

You will liaise with staff, professionals and parents alike and aim to achievethe best possible outcomes for students.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful for this Teaching Assistant opportunity, you must have experience working with children with challenging behaviour and must also be able to demonstrate an awareness of the key competencies that are expected to go along with working with childrenwith SEN.

You will also ideally have exposure to Team Teach or similar de-escalation techniques, however this is not essential as training will be provided.
