We are looking for applicants with a passion for working with children and adolescents with physical health problems, who are experiencing psychological, emotional and social difficulties. This new post will focus on providing a comprehensive psychological service to children and young people with diabetes. A Senior Clinical Psychologist will provide supervision and support. The post holder will have opportunities to input into generic Child Health Psychology. We will discuss the balance of work at appointment dependant on experience, interest and skills

The role involves close working with Paediatricians and medical teams. The ability to work with and across a number of medical teams is essential. Candidates with experience in the physical health environment are particularly welcome. However, this is not essential. Additional qualifications in a recognised therapeutic approach and those who have specialist CAMHS experience are encouraged to apply

Main duties of the job

To provide initial, detailed Psychological assessments with children and young people referred to the service and / or specific therapies to children and young people as indicated. To provide direct and indirect Psychological work for children / young people with health conditions. To promote effective working relationships within the medical and multi-disciplinary teams by working collaboratively and jointly with other team members and professionals from other agencies To provide training regarding Psychological consequences of living with a chronic health condition and training regarding interventions To provide advice, consultation and supervision for support staff in hospital, school and community settings where appropriate To offer scheduled consultation to colleagues on a regular basis To provide intervention / prevention packages and training to young people in dealing with physical health difficulties and understanding the impact of these on their emotional well being

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

Eligible to practice under the mental health measure Wales 2010. This includes registered mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapist, practising psychologist.

Desirable

Additional formal qualification in a recognised therapeutic approach in working psychologically with children and young people with physical health difficulties

Experience

Essential

Relevant post registration experience of working with children, young people and families in a health or social care environment or mental health setting

Desirable

Experience of working in a specific clinical role relating to paediatric psychology
