Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Neonatology

Norwich, Norfolk, United Kingdom Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Summary of main duties of this post:

  • To support the development of the NIHR Norfolk Clinical Research Facility, particularly in relation to supporting and developing early phase clinical trials, translational research, and experimental medicine in the NICU
  • To contribute to the development of innovative inhouse research projects
  • This post will offer the opportunity for an individual to strengthen their own research credentials and neonatal experience
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Research Fellow (STR3+ equivalent) in Neonatal Medicine.

This is a new, half-time post (20 hours/week) created specifically to support the development of our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) as an integral part of the NIHR Norfolk Clinical Research Facility, particularly in relation to supporting and developing early phase clinical trials and experimental medicine in the NICU and to develop further collaborative research links and projects with academic collaborators in Norwich Research Park.

The funding for this post comes from the NIHR Norfolk Clinical Research Facility as a result of the successful NIHR award granted to the Trust to support its new Clinical Research Facility status.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of acute clinical services through the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (1,000 beds) and Cromer and District Hospital, including more specialist services such as oncology and radiotherapy, neonatology, orthopaedics, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, paediatric medicine and surgery.

As a university teaching hospital we have developed our research and development strategy in partnership with the Quadram Institute Bioscience, University of East Anglia and with commercial sponsors.

We also work closely with our partners on the Norwich Research Park and Norwich Radiology Academy to take forward our ambitious targets for research and development.

The NICU of NNUH is a major regional centre operating within the East of England Neonatal Operational Delivery Network. It undertakes a full range of neonatal intensive care, including neonatal surgery.

In 2021, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit cared for over 1100 infants and delivered almost 2000 days of intensive care, 2400 days of high dependency care, and over 4000 days of special care.

The neonatal department has an active research programme and is involved in several major national and international NIHR and commercial studies, including early phase studies.

Please see the attached Job Description for the full details of the post and person specification.
