The main goal of this position is to lead the development of education services in the city of Aberdeen. This includes adult learning, family learning, libraries, community learning, in-school learning, transitions, early years, employability services, inclusion, and attainment. The focus is on achieving positive outcomes for children and young people as per the principles of 'Getting It Right for Every Child'.

As the Chief Education Officer, you will be responsible for providing expert guidance to the local authority, elected members, and officers regarding education services.

Reporting to the Director - Children, Families & Communities, the Chief Officer - Education & Lifelong Learning will be a key member of the Corporate Management Team, fostering strong relationships with various stakeholders, including other functional areas, elected members, trade unions, and employees.


Key Extended Corporate Management Team:

The success in this role relies on collaborative efforts with the Chief Officer - Children's Social Work & Family Support, Chief Officer - Housing, Chief Officer - Commercial and Procurement Services, and Chief Officer - Data Insights (HDRCA).

Requirements:

  • Education-related degree or postgraduate degree
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Operational and strategic management experience in education services
  • Ability to motivate and empower staff for high performance
  • Proficient in resource management (human, financial, and ICT) for effective service delivery
  • Proven expertise in education, including areas such as Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC), school improvement, curriculum development, and related legislative acts
