Director – Credit Risk Officer

About Risk

The Risk department is responsible for evaluating, monitoring and controlling Risk, ensuring comprehensive and effective control to support the Firm in its commercial objectives.

Risk works with business units to independently quantify the appropriate level of risk for the client, for the firm and for our shareholders, applying appropriate governance and control to ensure the right decisions are made using accurate calculation, assessment and recording of exposure and risk.

Works closely with our Front Office stakeholders to support growth in a controlled way within our risk appetite parameters and with effective monitoring of the portfolio, with specific focus on early stage and growth companies (typically VC backed, Series B-D)Key Accountabilities
Manage all Risk exposure within the sector, with particular focus on Growth Lending [and Enterprise Value].
Establish lending parameters and appropriate framework for a responsible Growth Lending proposition, aligned with UKC Innovation Banking objectives.
Lead all engagement with Risk seniors on the innovation economy portfolio,
Lead partner on development and implementation of any new risk frameworks appropriate for the target market, including Sustainable Risk/Climate Tech, and in collaboration with Front Office

Build collaborative relationships with Front Office senior leadership, engage as a partner to the business and align Risk appetite to business objectives.

Provide high quality credit analysis, be able to identify appropriate products and structures to suit client needs in the innovation economy, conduct relevant analysis to identify and mitigate risk, or escalate /support the broader team as required.

Assist, support and add value to Front Office and Product Teams with effective deal making/structuring to support Coverage in delivering to client expectations and commercial plans.

Provide prompt and accurate information for ad-hoc requests made by the Regulator and senior management as required.

Experience of sanctioning Growth lending/ARR lending/venture debt for corporate clients, applying both commercial and credit judgement at a senior level.

Financial analysis including general accounting principles, EV, cash flow and balance sheet analysis, financial models and modelling techniques, risk measurement and hedge management techniques.

Must be decisive, a clear communicator both written and oral, and work as a partner with front office teams.

Knowledge of the UK Venture Capital market and enterprise software/Climate Tech/Creative Industries and Life Science end markets.
