Job Description:

An internationally renowned materials manufacturing business is currently recruiting an Electrical Controls Engineer to join its team based in Cambridge on a permanent basis. As their Electrical Controls Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting maintenance across the site to improve plant performance, whilst having the ability to lead CI projects and develop details control specifications.

Electrical Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
  1. Support the maintenance effort across the site to improve plant performance and reliability.
  2. Lead continuous improvement projects within the department.
  3. Provide Electrical & Controls Engineering skills and knowledge to the Project Engineering team.
  4. Support project, process and maintenance activities that will lead to improved safety and production efficiencies.
  5. Lead continuous improvement projects from concept to successful implementation.
  6. Develop concepts into detailed control specifications on a broad range of manufacturing equipment.
  7. Creating and maintaining electrical, instrumentation and controls documentation.
  8. Supporting site breakdowns as required to return the plant into production promptly.
  9. Requirement to join the technical support call-out rota.
  10. Remain available to support the site, to ensure safety and minimise downtime.
Electrical Controls Engineer Requirements:
  1. Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience acting as an Electrical Controls Engineer – with a strong background in instrumentation/controls.
  3. Engineering experience in a manufacturing or process environment.
  4. Experience including design and specification of industrial chemical processes or similar.
  5. Rockwell PLC knowledge required (Logix 5000 & 500, plus RS view) of Safety PLC systems and SIL.
  6. Drive knowledge e.g., Allen Bradley, Parker/SDS, ABB.
  7. Practical application of problem solving and fault finding i.e., 4-20mA loops, Eurotherm controllers, process critical equipment.
  8. Experience with industry-standard risk assessment techniques such as HAZOP, and FMEA.
  9. Trained in machine safety.
  10. ATEX & commissioning experience would be advantageous.
  11. 2D CAD knowledge is advantageous. (AutoCAD, EPlan etc.)
