We have an exciting opportunity for a highly professional, motivated and enthusiastic candidate to manage Carlton Ward, based at Kingswood Centre. The ward offers assessment, care and treatment to female and male patients diagnosed with Learning Disabilities who are acutely unwell, together with care planning, discharge planning, clinical risk assessments and providing a safe and therapeutic environment for all.

We are looking for a compassionate and highly motivated Ward Manager to lead our dedicated clinical team. You will be able to demonstrate progressive skills in leadership, advanced clinical practice, and service development with a working knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). We are seeking a nurse who is looking to further their career. You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team that is committed to the provision of high quality and patient-centred care, continuous service and staff development, and strong collaborative working with other agencies. The successful applicant will work with the Matron to promote a culture that fosters staff involvement and a progressive attitude to service improvement, along with taking operational and clinical day to day management responsibility at team level using performance management systems. You will also work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. Main duties of the job Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities' Management of Nursing Care and Practice Ensure that all nursing practice is developed using up to date evidence based practice, ensuring that all nursing staff have the appropriate skill base and supporting mechanisms to access training to work with the service user group. Oversee a service user's care pathway, utilising available resources and Patient Journey framework and lead the team in its implementation. Ensure systems are in place to support user and carer-centred involvement in the everyday activities on the ward. Ensure that nursing staff receive regular supervision and appraisal, and are offered essential and developmental training in accordance with their personal development plans, and the needs of the service. Ensure that all service users are made aware of, encouraged, and assisted to use all services available to them, in particular, those in the community. Ensure that the requirements of all mental health legislation are met with particular regard to the Mental Health Act 1983 (including amendments and Code of Practice) and Community Care Legislation (eg. CPA, Supervision Registers and Supervised Discharge etc), NSF, Child Protection and NHS Plan and ensuring that all practices are within the guidelines set by the NMC and are in accordance with Trust policy.   • Registered Nurse Learning Disability Registered / Mental Health Nurse (RNMH / RNLD)
Previous Experience Essential
  • oConsiderable years of post-registration experience working with people with dual diagnosis of learning disabilities and mental illness / challenging behaviour needs
  • oGood knowledge of current developments in learning disability services.
  • oExperience of supervising and managing people
  • oProven experience in clinical and managerial supervision.
  • oProven post registration development.
  • oKnowledge of and experience in clinical governance and clinical audit.
  • oKnowledge of safer staffing
  • oExperience in change management
  • oTeaching experience
  • oExperience in team building / mentoring
  • oExperience of working/managing CQC regulated services and peer review
Desirable
  • oGood working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • oENB N47 / ENB N30 / Mentorship Course
  • oNursing Diploma / degree.
  • oHuman and financial resource management
Knowledge & Skills Essential
  • o Considerable years' experience of working with people with dual diagnosis.
  • oWorking knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • oTo be trained in and able to use physical intervention techniques.
  • oExperience of leading staff and staff development
  • oAble to delegate responsibilities to junior staff.
  • oGood organisational and communication skills.
  • oKnowledge of care planning.
  • oAbility to organise and chair clinical team meetings, treatment planning meetings and 117 CPA.
  • oTo be able to produce reports for managers and MHRT meetings.
  • oTo be competent in IT skills.
  • oExperience of providing individual supervision.
  • oKnowledge of quality issues and audits.
  • oKnowledge of health and social care issues relating to people with learning disabilities
Desirable
  • Able to lead and manage shifts direct supervision
