Sport England is the arms-length body responsible for growing and developing grassroots sport and getting more people active across England.

An important part of this is advocating for the benefits sport & physical activity can bring for people across England, and activating a movement of partners working to the same goal.

The External Affairs Officer will help to support Sport England's external affairs engagement, working to grow our relationships within Westminster and Whitehall.

This will include working across our parliamentary engagement, targeted government relations and collaboration with key stakeholders in and outside of the sport and physical activity sector.


Role Purpose

Sitting with the Digital, Marketing and Communications directorate, you will work with expert colleagues across Strategy, Press and wider Communications to advocate for the benefits that grassroots sport and physical activity can bring.

This role will support Sport England's external affairs engagement moving forward, and help to grow strategic engagement with political stakeholders.


Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in public affairs or government relations.
  • A proactive nature, and ability to manage and prioritise competing workflows in an unpredictable and rapidly changing environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to analyse and translate complex issues, simplifying information into a form which makes sense to a nonspecialist audience.
  • Comfortable engaging with stakeholders, and confidence to balance a range of relationships and interests.

Desirable

  • An understanding of the sporting landscape in England.
  • An understanding of the UK political system, its structures, how it operates and relevant engagement opportunities.
  • Experience working within national or local government.
  • A relevant degree or professional qualifications.

Salary:
£27,650.00 per year
