Manchester, United Kingdom Maternity Action Full time
Job description

Maternity Action is the UK's maternity rights charity dedicated to promoting, protecting and enhancing the rights of all pregnant women, new mothers and their families to employment, social security and health care.

We are seeking an experienced solicitor, barrister or advice worker to deliver advice, training and outreach on maternity and parental employment rights, maternity pay and welfare benefits on our new Greater Manchester and East Cheshire Advice Service, which is a Health Justice Partnership.

About us
We are a small charity that has grown over the past four years. We have a longstanding commitment to working from home, and we offer our staff genuine flexibility. 23 of our 27 staff work part time, and staff are located across the UK.

Maternity Action's in-house legal team delivers advice and casework support to over 3,000 pregnant women and new parents across the UK each year and our 50+ online information sheets are viewed over 1.5 million times.

About our Greater Manchester and East Cheshire service

We have received funding from the Department of Health and Social Care to deliver a three year innovative health justice partnership service across the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire region.

The service will deliver specialist, expert legal advice on employment rights at work, maternity pay and benefits, working closely with the region's maternity services and with local community organisations.

We are partnering with the Greater Manchester Law Centre to deliver the project.

Health Justice Partnerships are collaborations that embed legal help in healthcare services and teams.

The objective of Health Justice Partnership service models is to provide access to legal advice and support for social welfare issues that might be affecting an individual's mental or physical health, either in a healthcare setting or through referral from healthcare professionals.

About you

We are looking for an experienced lawyer or advice worker with a thorough knowledge of maternity and parental rights at work and, ideally, a good knowledge of maternity pay and welfare benefits for pregnant women and new parents, although some training will be provided.

We are looking for someone with experience in delivering complex legal information, preferably by telephone, excellent written and spoken communication skills, and experience in delivering training and outreach.

The role

The roles can be delivered from home or from the Greater Manchester Law Centre in Levenshulme, with occasional in-person training and outreach sessions.

We are recruiting for two 21 hours/week roles, however we are flexible about the number of hours worked so please state the hours you would prefer.

Thursday is a core day and we are otherwise flexible about start/finish times and days worked, within normal business hours.

Hours can be spread across three, four or five days. The ability to undertake occasional evening work is desirable but not essential.
