You will take a lead in supporting student behaviour systems at the Academy, and implement several different strategies aimed at supporting students that make poor behaviour choices.

Detentions are run centrally, allowing teaching staff to do what they do best:
plan and teach amazing lessons.


Attendance and engagement with learning is high, and centrally planned tutor time resources ensure that our tutors can engage with students whilst delivering high-quality experiences.


Main Areas of Responsibility Behaviour for Learning**- To support and play a lead role with the consistent implementation of the Academy Behaviour Policy.

  • To be responsible for the calm and purposeful entrance and exit of students into/out of the academy
  • To work with the other members of the pastoral team as a unit to ensure students are
monitored and supervised before school, during break and throughout lunch.

  • To assist with the management of detentions every afternoon.
  • To act as the liaison between the academy and the local community (including the Police) for any aspect of behaviour issues arising during the academy day eg, truancy sweeps, liaising with local shopkeepers.
  • Ensuring that follow up action is taken for students failing to meet academy standards
particularly outside lessons;

  • To follow through any issues to do with behaviour as required by the academy Leadership Group, for example, taking student statements regarding incidents and passing these on to relevant colleagues.
  • To mentor students on, supporting successful achievement of targets and contributing to meetings/reports. This may include supporting in lessons as appropriate.
  • To present reports of student's progress to review meetings.
  • To ensure that all issues that relate to student safety and/or safeguarding are passed on to academy colleagues, in a timely manner, for further investigation as required.

Management of the Academy Reflection Room

  • To assist in the management and supervision of the Reflection Room in line with Academy protocols and procedures
  • To provide the students with very clear expectations of conduct and be responsible for a calm and purposeful learning environment.
  • To organise and liaise with teaching staff to ensure any necessary work and lesson content for students is set appropriately and the relevant curriculum is delivered.
  • To keep updated and accurate records of students
  • To facilitate any necessary paperwork such as sending relevant letters home
  • To ensure that follow up action is taken for students failing to meet expectations while
undertaking a period of reflection.

  • To follow through any issues to do with behaviour as required by the Academy Leadership Group or Pastoral team, for example, taking student statements regarding incidents and passing these on to relevant colleagues.
  • To ensure that all issues that relate to student safety such as safeguarding or allegations of bullying are passed on to relevant Academy colleagues, in a timely manner, for further investigation as required.
  • To be a role model for the students attending the Reflection Room.
  • To be proactive in sharing good practice, using Federation models of good practice to inform development of the Reflection Room.

Qualifications & Experience

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of the Academy Behaviour Policy (can be found on our website)
  • Knowledge of the range of barriers to learning that students face
  • Effective use of basic ICT
  • Experience of working successfully with young people in a school or otherwise
  • Experience of working with families
