Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for Actuarial candidates to join our European Actuarial Team. We are looking for individuals who have an ability to excel and an excellence of character. Our culture is innovative and fast paced and these positions are the perfect fit for those who are intellectually curious, self-motivated, and collaborative.

The team is growing and there are multiple positions available which will be based in our London office. These roles come with exposure to UK and European Casualty and Healthcare, with an area of focus depending on the skills of the individual. The tasks and responsibilities will grow in line with the maturity of the business and the candidate's profile.

Job title and compensation will be commensurate with the experience and exam level of the individual.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Price individual large insurance policies and be a business partner for underwriters in this process
  • Support the recalibration of existing pricing models, by analysing external or internal claims and exposure data to enhance proprietary pricing factors and models.
  • Collaborate with other departments and other regions on the development and maintenance of actuarial reporting processes.
  • Work with our data compilation team to ensure high quality data capture.
  • Provide technical support, as needed, to underwriters on pricing models.
  • Assist the underwriting community in benefiting from available reporting tools.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in actuarial studies, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Actively pursuing Fellowship with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, with proven progress.
  • Actuarial experience in a General Insurance role preferable. Pensions, Life insurance or related data science experience will be considered.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, with proficiency in VBA strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with SQL, R, Python or similar language preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, capable of communicating complex concepts to a non-actuarial audience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong desire to learn from and share knowledge with teammates.
  • Effective time management, with the ability to juggle multiple projects at the same time.
