An excellent opportunity for a qualified dispenser to join an established small team working for two dispensing doctors' surgeries in the dispensary at Clitheroe Health Centre.

Full time preferred, but part time considered.


A dispenser working in a GP surgery carries out similar roles to working in a pharmacy but with additional roles specific to working for a dispensing doctor's surgery.

The main duties and responsibilities similar to working in a pharmacy include:

  • Taking in and handing out prescriptions, including the collection of prescription charges/checking patient exemptions.
  • Dealing with patient queries.
  • Dispensing and checking prescriptions using ProScript and EMIS.
  • Referring problems and queries to the right person.
  • Using computer systems to generate labels as well as reorder stock.
  • Receiving, unpacking and checking deliveries from suppliers.
  • Ensuring the dispensary is clean and tidy and that shelves are checked on a regular basis.
Additional main duties working in a dispensing doctor's dispensary include:

  • Receiving prescription requests from patients and pharmacies, and issuing or actioning any repeat/acute/past drug requests via the EPS using EMIS.
  • Dealing with queries generated through workflow from clinicians.
  • Maintaining GP emergency bag drugs and practice anaphylactic packs.
  • Involvement in the supply of drugs, dressings to Stonyhurst College.

Qualifications and key skills
Essential qualification - Minimum NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Data entry skills.

Ability to work well within a team and autonomously.

Good time management skills.

Flexibility and dependability.

Job Types:

£11.67-£12.45 per hour
