Job Details:

We are an Arm's Length Management Organisation (ALMO) set up in April 2004 to run the housing service on behalf of Solihull Council.

The Council still owns the properties and is the landlord. But housing services are delivered by us.

We are run by a management board made up of four tenants, four councillors and four independent people chosen for their specialist skills and experience.

Responsible to the Safer Homes Contract Officer, you will be responsible for the co-ordination and administration of various compliance operations across our portfolio.

This includes maintaining service schemes and liaising with customers to ensure servicing and repairs are completed in line with current legislation and guidance.

You will require particular skills and abilities associated with your primary area of work but will also be expected to carry out duties covering other areas of work within the team as and when required.


  • To provide an administration service across the Safer Homes Team on a variety of compliance activities which include but not limited to; Asbestos, Fire Safety, Water Hygiene, Gas and Electrical.
  • Attend performance review meetings with contractors. As a team present evidence of performance and attainment of KPI's as detailed in the contracts.
  • Liaise with tenants regarding works to be carried out and any necessary requirements, including access. There is scope to be involved with visits to awkward to access properties.
  • Coordinate the timely action of required works, working with contractors and relevant internal teams.
  • Generate works orders to authorise required works and manage to completion.
  • Coordinate annual programme of various service schemes, maintain records and provide weekly and monthly statistics of progress.
  • Maintaining and monitoring paper and electronic records associated with compliance activities.
  • Providing statistical information when required.
  • Communicate with people openly, directly, honestly and promote a free flow of ideas and information.
  • Ensure teams and other stakeholders are regularly briefed and are kept informed of changes and developments relative to your work areas.
  • Ensure that the giving and receiving of effective feedback becomes the norm across service areas and be prepared to confront difficult issues openly and with integrity.
  • Work effectively with all colleagues and customers and be approachable to staff and customers.

Education & Qualifications
Essential Criteria

Good level of education to a minimum of 4 GCSE passes or equivalent; English and Maths grade C or above, or the ability to demonstrate the necessary experience/knowledge to carry out the full range of duties.

Desirable Criteria
Evidence of continued Professional Development (CPD) Health & Safety qualification
Skill & Abilities
Essential Criteria
Good literacy and numeracy skills.

Excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to communicate clearly with customers, colleagues, contractors and other outside bodies.

Effective IT skills including MS word and excel and database systems. Organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and on own initiative. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with customers and employees of Solihull Community Housing
Desirable Criteria
Ability to work effectively with all stakeholders. Ability to prioritise and manage stakeholder expectations. Relevant experience of working with compliance management systems. Knowledge of gas or electrical compliance
Experience & Knowledge
Essential Criteria

Competent at collating and presenting statistical information using spreadsheets and databases Experience of delivering an exceptional customer service A good understanding of the importance of equal opportunities and diversity in employment and service industry.

Desirable Criteria
Relevant experience of working with compliance management systems. Previous knowledge of Health and Safety. Car user
