West London NHS Trust is looking for a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist to take a leadership role in a Clinical Neuropsychology community service based in Ealing. This service has been created by the formation of Ealing Community Partners (ECP), a group of NHS, council and voluntary organisations working together to transform community health and care services within Ealing.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic individual who will take a lead role in the provision and development of neuropsychology services within ECP. The role will include responsibility for leading a team of psychologists and contributing to the clinical governance and ongoing development and delivery of the neuropsychology services within ECP.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and highly motivated with experience of leadership, supervision and management. They will have experience in the development and delivery of psychological services for patients with neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job The post holder will have responsibility for providing clinical leadership to the neuropsychology services that are part of the Clinical Health and Neuropsychology service for Ealing Community Partners.

They will take a lead role in ensuring that Trust Psychology and other policy, standards and directorate targets for neuropsychology services for adults with a range of neurological conditions are being met. There will be a focus on the provision of neuropsychological services to patients referred to the Enable Community Neurorehabilitation service and the Level 3 Neurorehabilitation ward at Clayponds Hospital. However, the service will offer neuro psychological care to patients referred to other ECP partners.

The role will involve developing a close working relationship with NHS Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT), secondary care mental health services and Liaison Psychiatry to develop a clinical pathway for patients with neurological conditions and mental health needs.

The role will include professional supervision to clinical psychologists working across neuro rehabilitation services. They will be responsible for the day-to-day management, policy development and clinical governance of neuropsychology provision across ECP services.

The postholder has the opportunity to work remotely (e.g. from home) for part of the working week but there will also be a requirement to visit sites across Ealing when needed. Experience Essential
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patient groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a specialist clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology assessment, intervention and outcome measures with patients with neurological conditions.
  • Experience of working at a specialist/highly specialist clinical psychologist level in neurological rehabilitation setting
  • Experience of working within and actively participating in a team environment and contributing a psychological perspective within the context of multi-disciplinary care.
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision of health care professionals and/or assistant/trainee psychologists

Knowledge and Skills Essential
  • Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of neuropsychology, neurorehabilitation, lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies.
  • Advanced knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies for adults with acquired brain injury (e.g. advanced knowledge of adapting CBT to clients with brain injury advanced knowledge of using compensatory memory strategies in cognitive rehabilitation)
  • Advanced knowledge of neuropsychological assessment (including their administration and interpretation) and clinical psychometrics
  • Evidence of continuing training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post doctoral training (diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, OR an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice-based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a postgraduate diploma.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues.
  • Advanced clinical skills and practice of at least one model of psychological therapy.
  • Skills in application of psychological interventions in a specialist area (e.g. application of CBT and cognitive rehabilitation for adults with acquired brain injury).
  • Ability to describe and reflect on the applications and interventions of main therapeutic model.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a therapeutic relationship.
  • Advanced practitioner and supervisory skills in at least one model of psychological therapy.
  • Skills in providing teaching and training to other professional groups
  • A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside of the NHS.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, management and influencing skills.
  • Ability to identify, and employ as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice when faced with highly emotional/ distressing circumstances (i.e. family breakdown).
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to clients with health conditions.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC and British Psychological Society.
