Joint Clinical Lead & Lead Psychologist for Persistent Pain Service

An exciting opportunity has come available for an experienced Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychologist to join the expanding outpatient Therapies services and work collaboratively with the existing Clinical Lead of the Tower Hamlets Persistent Pain Service (PPS) multi-disciplinary team.

The post holder will be jointly responsible for the strategic leadership of the Persistent Pain Service, working closely with the MDT pain service across Barts, the Head of Musculoskeletal Therapy, pain consultants, professional Lead for Clinical Health Psychology, commissioners, and user groups.

The post holder will be responsible for the psychological provision within the service.

For those who are recruited into a Band 8a position, we will provide you with the support to progress into a Band 8b post within the team, through a career and competency framework developed within our Trust.

To provide strategic leadership to the persistent pain service within Tower Hamlets

The post holder will provide clinical, management and professional leadership to MDT staff at all levels within the persistent pain service, ensuring that care is delivered to a high standard and that the staff resource is managed effectively.

The post holder contributes to the on-going implementation of the Outpatient Therapy agenda, in close liaison with the Therapy Leads and Pain consultants.

The post holder will also undertake the key functions in the attainment and monitoring of quality and clinical performance indicators and ensuring that any aspect of Directorate service delivery is underpinned by the patient and service user experience.

The post holder will work in partnership with the Divisional leadership to ensure the operational delivery of the Divisional strategy for safer, cost effective quality care and support the divisional management team in developing the strategic direction and policy framework for the persistent pain service.

Extensive experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, including experience of working in long-term pain management.
Experience developing and working on research projects within their field of work
Experience of specialist clinical assessment and treatment with medical populations, in accordance with their profession.
Strategic leadership of a service and experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams in physical health care settings.
Experience of teaching, training and supervision of pre and post qualified psychologists (Clinical psychologist applicants only)
Experience of contributing to the delivery of pain management programmes.
Experience in working with challenging client groups (e.g. people with multiple physical, social and psychological problems, or people whose health is seriously compromised by low adherence to medical regimens).
Experience in gathering, collating and reporting on key performance indicators to commissioners.
Experience in the application of psychological assessment and preparation for people considering complex medical and surgical interventions.
Experience in driving change initiatives in a healthcare setting

Well-developed knowledge and skills in the use of complex methods of clinical assessment, intervention and management appropriate to clients with persistent pain.

Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Skills in gathering, collating and reporting on key performance indicators to commissioners.

Evidence of being able to use computers to a good or excellent level, including the use of Word, Excel & Power point presentations.

Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC and British Psychological Society

Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.

Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice.
Active contribution to service development within the Trust provision for persistent pain.
Knowledge of legislation and social policies relevant to persistent pain and mental health.
Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology

Well-developed knowledge of teaching multi-disciplinary health professionals applications of psychological principles of self-management in chronic disease settings.
Knowledge of psychology of health, illness and health care experiences and processes.
Well-developed knowledge of theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies

Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent) as accredited by the British Psychological Society, or British Psychological Society Statement of Equivalence
Completion of further post-graduate/qualification specialist relevant training in clinical supervision, including Training in supervision of trainee clinical psychologists (Clinical psychologist applicants only)

Accredited training in research methodology and/or health psychology.
Post-graduate/ qualification training in one or more additional areas of psychological practice.
