Job summary

Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Facilities Managerto join the Facilities Portering Team at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHSTrust.

The successful candidate will be reporting to theFacilities Operational Manager, and they will have overall responsibility forthe Portering services. The Portering services comprise of the movement ofpatients, goods and waste around the site and the role involves cross siteworking between St James Hospital and the Leeds General Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

To role involves assisting the FacilitiesOperational Manager in the day to day delivery of the service and its systems.The post holder will deputise for the Facilities Operational Manager in theirabsence. On a day to day basis manage the performance and effectiveness oftheir supervisors and Portering staff. To give on the spot advice in practices,procedures and performance of their Portering Supervisors and staff. To spend asignificant amount of time on the shop floor so having a good understandingon what is happening on that shift. To build relationships with all levels ofstaff from Senior Sister down within each functional area. To assist in theimplementation of all the operational administrative systems that have beendirected by the agreed Portering strategy. To monitor the performance on a dayto day basis of all aspects of the Portering function and deal with anysubstandard performance. To ensure that all staff receive mandatory trainingwith annual refresher, and that best practices/protocols are implemented,followed and adhered to at all times. To ensure that all trust agreed infectioncontrol policies, practices and procedures are adhered to. To ensure that theservice provision remains within financial and weekly paid hours targets. Toimplement any of the Human Resources policies sickness, capability,grievances, recruitment etc. To promote excellent industrial relations withinthe team and support other colleagues within Facilities.

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will be a member of the Facilities Portering Team and support widerservices within Facilities such as Patient Environment. They will beresponsible for carrying out any duties commensurate with the grade of post.The role includes the effective management of the Portering services across StJames Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary. This entails the management ofSupervisors and staff and ensuring that all Trust polices and procedures areadhered to.

Thesuccessful candidate will be asked to implement innovative ways to improve theservice and support the Trust's 7 commitments with the reduction of patientwait times. The role requires flexibility in approach to the duties requiredand the hours worked.

The post holder will be expected to have a successfultrack record in managing a large team in a healthcare environment and have asound knowledge of Microsoft systems.
