LAS Senior Business Intelligence Analysts are instrumental in providing and communicating statistical information about the Trust, including activity and performance data, generating insight, and developing interactive visualisation tools, driving forward our ambition of making the LAS a world-class service. Working on a variety of diverse projects across the organisation, the role will include many aspects of business intelligence, from supporting Operational and Corporate services, providing evidence for business intelligence, from corporate, contract and commissioning, to producing performance packs for all management levels including the Executive Leadership Team and external stakeholders, as well as Trust Board. Recommendations derived from your work will shape the delivery of an evolving service in a challenging healthcare environment. This role will also involve a mixture of home and office working.

Main duties of the job An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent post as a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst within the Business Intelligence team. This is an exciting and challenging role for an individual who enjoys working in a fast paced, demanding and evolving healthcare environment. You will join an enthusiastic and analytical minded team as part of a high profile and influential organisation. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in using their analytical and technical skillset to tackle Trust challenges helping to drive transformational change. The role will also involve communication with colleagues from across the strategic, operational and executive teams and external communication with commissioning teams and NSHE, so confidence in presenting sensitive and complex findings to non-technical audiences is essential. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of areas such as:
  • Supervised & unsupervised learning
  • Programming (SQL)
  • Extensive experience of producing, analysing and interpreting business intelligence in a work environment, including manipulating data sets, analysing data, presenting findings in appropriate formats and making recommendations
  • Data visualisation and reporting (Power BI, Tableau and SSRS)

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Graduate level of education or equivalent experience and expertise in business intelligence in a work environment
  • GCSE mathematics or equivalent
Experience Essential
  • Experience of producing, analysing and interpreting business intelligence in a work environment, including manipulating data sets, analysing data, presenting findings in appropriate formats and making recommendations
  • Experience of working with complex, conflicting and contentious information
  • Experience of using, creating and developing databases in SQL Server, in a work environment (including creating complex queries using structured query language to interrogate the data, creating procedures and reports)
  • Experience of developing applications in Excel (using formulae, functions, complex calculations and other statistical techniques, plus the use of Visual Basic for Applications to automate spreadsheets)
  • Experience in using Data Visualization Tools (Tableau, Power BI and SSRS)
  • General knowledge of computer hardware and software and constant updating of that knowledge
Knowledge Essential
  • Ability to analyse complex and sometimes conflicting data sets, with a logical approach
  • Ability to develop, maintain and adapt databases and spreadsheets for personal use as well as the use of others in a changing environment
  • Ability to tailor business intelligence systems to meet user requirements
  • Ability to solve problems and make informed recommendations based on detailed data analysis
  • Excellent numeracy skills, with the ability to use statistical techniques
  • Accurate with attention to detail
  • Ability to concentrate when carrying out detailed analysis over sustained periods
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate and persuade
  • Ability to use different influencing skills appropriate to the outcomes of findings, especially when findings do not support initial assumptions or expectations
  • Diplomatic and tactful
  • Advanced keyboard skills, including ability to input a large amount of data quickly and accurately
  • Ability to manage/organise own workload and plan work according to changing priorities and deadlines
  • High level of personal motivation with the ability to work independently using own initiative, or as part of a team
  • Ability to make own decisions on how issues should be resolved and how results are best achieved, implementing those decisions as appropriate
  • Ability to promote and deliver a customer focused service
