We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Underwriter to join our childcare specialist business, Morton Michel. This role would suit someone with commercial package underwriting experience.


You will be comfortable liaising with Insurers and internal team members, dealing with various enquiries for a wide range of childcare specialist products whilst ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines under Delegated Authority schemes and disciplines.

You will have good administration and communication skills with the ability to develop business relationships. You will also be responsible for internal technical training and audits.


You will work in a wider team responsible for the product and propositions and work closely with the customer facing and development teams.


As the business continues to grow, there will be many opportunities to get involved in other exciting projects, expanding your skills along the way, and giving you the ability to grow within your role.


Responsibilities:

  • You will be dealing with renewals in line with agreed delegated underwriting authority guidelines,
  • You will underwrite / generate terms ensuring they are presented in a timely manner,
  • You will ensure adherence to Underwriting financial performance strategy
  • You will approach insurers with referrals on scenarios that are outside of our Delegated Authority in terms of pricing, coverage and policy conditions,
  • You will be required to be organised with your work allocation and prioritise where necessary whilst regularly reporting to the Product & Proposition Manger
  • You will adhere to compliance and regulatory procedures,

Experience:

  • You will have minimum 3 years appropriate previous insurance underwriting experience
  • You will ideally be qualified Cert CII,
  • You will have experience of working within a regulated FCA environment (essential),
  • You will be able to understand and implement 'best practice' in customer service, compliance systems and processes, and financial management,
  • Proven track record of retention and growth
  • You will have good experience using bespoke systems and MS Office Suite preferably Including Acturis,
  • You will have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, coupled with excellent time management,
  • You will be able to work under pressure, adapt and be flexible in approach,
  • You will have excellent communication skills which includes verbal, written, listening and negotiation, having the ability to communicate at all levels,
  • Good technical knowledge of commercial package business, including Property, Casualty and Financial Lines classes.
  • Good technical knowledge of commercial business, including commercial combined, liability and property classes.
  • Understanding of the insurer market & ability to develop effective insurer relationships
