As a Senior Residential Worker you will be supporting the Registered Manager to develop a brand new children's home for young people with learning difficulties and associated needs, you'll be undertaking the role of shift leading by supporting your colleagues to provide a safe, stimulating and caring environment.

You will be a shift leader who oversees the activities whilst on shift, you will ensure the children and young peoples needs are central to all decisions made and opportunities for development are at the forefront.

We will actively support you in your role and provide you with regular supervision and training to support you personal development

Purpose of role:


Assess, care plan, review and providing a 24/7 care service, in line with regulatory requirements and organisational policy and procedure to achieve positive outcomes for individual children and young people and contributing to the achievement of an outstanding, good or equivalent rating in external inspection.


Main duties:

  • Take a lead with case/care planning management for individual children or young people, undertaking assessment of need, developing a care plan and identifying agreed outcomes and carrying out regular review in conjunction with children, young people and their families and other professionals.
  • Supervise, guide or direct staff and volunteers where required and provide mentoring to newly appointed staff
  • Support children and young people in their personal care, administration of medication and clinical procedures in line with Action for Children's policy and procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Build and maintain professional positive working relationships by providing emotional and social support to children and young people who can display challenging emotional and social difficulties.
  • Work within the community to assist the child / young person and their family, promoting communication and participation by ensuring that the views and needs of children/ young people are articulated, heard and responded to.
  • Ensure all records, paper and electronic, are maintained and duly uploaded into the appropriate database.
  • Undertake assessment of children and young people co-ordinating multi agency and family information, analysing and producing reports; attendance at professional meetings including reviews, court work etc.
  • Refer appropriate cases and issues that require the involvement of a specialist, other management support or to directly provide the specialist support.
  • Develop effective working relationships with team members, partner agencies, other external agencies and Action for Children colleagues

  • Undertake such other duties that occasionally arise, which will always ensure that children across the country have a safe and happy childhood and the foundations they need to thrive.
  • Work with other departments and countries to ensure that Action for Children's values (passionate, ambitious, collaborative and inclusive) are delivered.
  • Be familiar and compliant with health, environmental and safety policies and procedures. In the event of any serious risk, take immediate action to reduce this risk and inform senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent to be achieved within 2 years of taking up the post
