Department of Health Sciences
The Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) at the Department of Health Sciences, University of York, is looking to appoint a Research Associate to play a leading role in performing quantitative analysis for the Yorkshire and Humber Applied Research Collaboration (YHARC), funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). YHARC aims to develop research partnerships to address specific health or care issues in the region and to undertake cutting edge health research. The University of York leads the YHARC Mental and Physical Multimorbidity theme (MPM), addressing complexities and health inequalities arising from coexisting mental and physical health problems. The successful applicant will work with the YHARC MPM Theme research team to deliver the aims of the programme, to answer research questions and interrogate data, which will inform interventions to address causes and consequences of the health inequality that people with severe mental ill health experience.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic research associate who has previously used a range of advanced quantitative research techniques and methodologies in a university setting, to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team working on methods to improve the physical and mental health of people with severe mental illness. The researcher's skill set should enable them to manage the day-to-day running of the quantitative projects for YHARC and to liaise with team members, participants, clinicians, and other partners across multiple sites in the University and the NHS. The post offers the opportunity to be part of a large and successful multi-disciplinary Department, renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to policy relevant research.

Role
The main purpose of the role is to manage the day-to-day delivery of statistical analyses of relevant YHARC studies. Key duties will include: the development of research proposals, statistical programming for checking, manipulating, summarising and analysing data, writing up of research results and dissemination through publications, seminar and conference presentations, and public engagement and outreach activities; contributing to the identification of possible new areas of research.

The work will be undertaken with support from other members of the multidisciplinary team and under the supervision of Principal Investigators, Professor Simon Gilbody at the University of York, and Professor Scott Weich at the University of Sheffield.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • First Degree in relevant subject area or equivalent professional qualifications.
