Project Placement opportunity available to assist with putting up Leeds Historic Photographs online.
The task involves preparing Leeds Museums' historic photograph and local history image collections for export to the Leodis website. This includes conducting research, identifying content, and cross-checking with images on Leodis for suitability. The project offers valuable experience in working with historic collections, digitization, and cataloging skills, research experience, and a chance to delve deeper into Leeds history. Contributing to making more of the museum collections accessible online and engaging the public in sharing information.
About the Position:
This role is one of four Project Placements at Leeds Museums and Galleries. The funding for Project Placements is provided through Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation funding, offering individuals paid experience in a heritage/cultural setting, training, and support, limited to 30 days to be completed by March 2025. The organization welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, emphasizing flexibility in working days and times to support a healthy work-life balance.

Job Description
Job Role
This role focuses on training and development, with responsibilities shared between the appointed person and their supporting supervisor. Project Placements aim to provide hands-on experience at Museums and Galleries, enhancing knowledge of potential careers in the field. Applicants will collaborate with Leeds Museums and Galleries to improve visitor experiences and increase accessibility to museum collections.
Key Responsibilities
Audiences
- Participation in public engagement activities, community engagement, learning, and exhibition programs.
- Ensuring high-quality customer service by fostering welcoming interactions, assisting with community engagement, and handling public inquiries and feedback.
Access
- Working closely with staff to maintain accessibility and inclusivity in museum spaces.
Collections and Programs
- Contributing to collections management, maintaining attention to detail in documentation and digitization, and supporting online access and collections handling.
- Involvement in exhibitions and displays, providing support for physical displays, exhibitions, and researching and providing information on collections.
- Building professional relationships with supervisors and colleagues to ensure effective teamwork.
Personal Development
- Demonstrating a commitment to training related to health, safety, safeguarding, and information governance.
- Embracing new experiences, creativity, and innovation while fostering a passion for museum collections.
