The paediatric ward, Peanut Ward, is a nine bedspace ward and is predominantly a day surgery unit with overnight stays for the more complex patients admitted.
The patients on Peanut Ward are from a variety of specialities. The ward cares for patients with burns and traumatic injuries requiring plastic surgery or maxillofacial surgery. Peanut Ward cares the children undergoing corneal grafts or ophthalmic and corneo plastic surgery.
The ward is split into two areas, Peanut Ward, which cares for the inpatients, and Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) that cares for the outpatients returning for dressing changes and consultant reviews.
The ward is an area where a nurse can gain exceptional experience in wound care and complex surgical procedures whilst having time to give patients time and excellent care.
