Alchemy are working with a Contemporary Art Gallery based in Central London, who are seeking a Senior Registrar to join their team.
Responsibilities:
- Keep track of the movement of all artworks and update the system of both the gallery's onsite and offsite inventory, performing inventory checks with the Gallery Technician
- Reliable recordkeeping, making sure the export and import documents are on the gallery database
- Making sure all exported and imported artwork is inspected for condition and make sure that all export/import of works processes are proper and follow HMRC regulations.
- Organise all stretching and framing of artwork and schedule art restoration as needed
- Keep track of the purchase of stock and plan the prompt transfer to the gallery or warehouse
- Create consignment agreements for the transfer of goods
- Oversee and support and the gallery's TA account and customs processes so that deadlines are met, and records are correct
- Manage the Junior Registrar directly, delegating tasks and keeping track of their work, offer assistance, perform formal reviews and advance their abilities and knowledge.
- Arrange the delivery of artwork shipments for shows and exhibitions, installation and removal, making sure that customs processes are correctly met, and delivery dates are honoured
- Arrange the return of artwork when the consignment term has ended
- During fairs, collaborate with the sales team on the sales list to get shipping estimates for customers before the fair ends
- Work closely with clients, shippers, artist studios and the sales team to provide a successful postsale service, which includes scheduling delivery in line with artwork specifications and client needs and collecting associated quotes
Requirements:
- Previous experience within a similar Shipping/ Registrar role within an art organisation is essential
- Highly organised, professional and ability to work on own initiative
- Knowledge of HMRC regulations, import and export customs and all relevant documentation associated with shipments of artwork is required
- Prior experience with inventory management, including inventory systems and databases
- Previous experience managing or training colleagues is beneficial
