We will provide you with on-the-job opportunities to develop your skills across a wide variety of flood related technical skills focusing on data management and analysis, with possible access to higher education or apprenticeships.

Working closely with colleagues, other teams and organisations, you can expect to be involved in any of the following:

  • Collection, analysis and interpretation of data
  • Flood risk mapping
  • Working closely with customers and partners
  • Taking part in incident management when flooding occurs
  • Providing advice, guidance and training for less experienced officers.
  • Providing technical support to help deliver a variety of flood defence schemes.


The East Coast Strategy Team works with our Partnerships and Strategic Overview, Asset Performance, Incident Response and Strategic Planning Teams.

The team is responsible for working with Partners to ensure a long-term strategic flood risk plan aligns with Local Plans for economic growth, infrastructure development and climate change adaptation in line with national policy.

Data and evidence informs short and medium term maintenance and capital programs to ensure they contribute to achieving combined strategic objectives.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

engages with communities to make them aware of the long-term strategy to manage flood risk including some of the challenges and opportunities to deliver these. We compile, manage, and use the best available evidence through our mapping, modelling and data work to inform our long-term plans and investment programme.

  • Experience/skills required
  • We are looking for a person who is proactive, with the ability to identify risks and resolve issues.

Through your experience you will demonstrate:

  • A good understanding of the impact of flooding.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with customers.
  • A good working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Analyse data and present it in a way that is accessible to partners and communities
  • Delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering and maintaining data/information.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills to deal with a diverse range of people.
  • Flexible to the needs of the organisation and open to new ways of working.
  • A positive and adaptable attitude, who responds well to constructive feedback.
  • Experience of working with others to deliver specific projects or initiatives.
