We currently have permanent part time opportunities for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with experience in equine care to join our dedicated team at our South of Norwich, Hapton Equine Centre, on a part time permanent contract.


Benefits include a workplace pension scheme, employee assistance programme, Cycle2Work Scheme, death in service benefit, Sanctuary sick pay and a minimum of 30 days holiday per year including bank holidays.

Salary £9.50 an hour for over 18s'

Salary £9.15 an hour for under 18s'


In addition, we offer shift workers a premium pay rate on Sundays (time and a half) and Bank Holidays (double time).


A full, clean, manual driving licence is essential.

Job Purpose


To work under the specific supervision of the Centre Team Leader and provide a high standard of care, ensuring the welfare of the equines in your centre.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide high quality care that ensures all equines have access to suitable water, feed and shelter and to ensure that hygiene is maintained.
  • To ensure stables/shelters are mucked out thoroughly, water receptacles are clean and refilled, hay nets filled and weighed.
  • To ensure instructions regarding the feeding of equines is followed stringently.
  • To give a visual health check to the equines including lameness.
  • To inform senior staff of equine ailments and needs.
  • Medication will be prescribed to some of the equines under your care, this you will expected to give on your rounds,
  • To ensure paddocks are checked for hazards and clean.
  • The catching and holding of nervous horses for the farrier and /or veterinary purposes.
  • Tractor driving, using paddock sweeper and other implements.
  • General use of tack and equine handling equipment.
  • To understand the importance of effective communication, observation and unified team work.
  • To liaise regularly with your line manager.
  • To be an effective team member.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria:
Experience

  • A sound knowledge and proven working background of caring for equines.
Skills/Ability/Knowledge

  • Ability to prioritise and to make intelligent decisions.
  • To be able to relate and understand information both written and verbally.
  • Communication skills. I.T. etc.
Qualities/Attributes

  • Able to integrate into an established team.
  • Flexible approach to tasks and workload.
  • A commitment to Equine Welfare.
  • The ability to spot something is potently wrong, observing changes in Equines.
Other Requirements

  • Full manual driving licence.
  • Attend courses and or meeting that may be required.

Desirable Criteria:
Education/ Qualifications

  • Formal Qualifications in Equine support.
Experience

  • Working for a similar organisation specialising in Equine Care.
