QuEST Global, is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in Plymouth, UK. This hybrid role will see you play a pivotal role in developing a future-proof power distribution solution.

Position will be mostly remote with site visits only when required.


In this role, you'll be a strategic thinker and technical leader:


  • Develop the vision: Articulate a comprehensive strategy to ensure the continued delivery of "Essential" power distribution capabilities at the Plymouth facility. Consider a potential relocation of the existing power distribution building to optimize long-term efficiency.
  • Dual Power Champion: Design systems that effectively supply both 60Hz and 50Hz power to nuclear loads and critical business functions.
  • Future-Proofing Power: Develop a power distribution solution with a 25-year life cycle in mind, ensuring continued operational excellence.


You'll also be responsible for:


  • Collaborating with the facilities engineering team at Devonport, conducting site visits as needed.
  • Capturing stakeholder requirements and interfaces to ensure a comprehensive solution.
  • Working alongside site engineers to develop a holistic approach to electrical distribution projects.
  • Conducting essential studies, calculations, and analyses to inform project decisions.
  • Participating in regular reviews and discussions with the design authority and facilities leadership.
  • Preparing a detailed report outlining defined requirements, stakeholder needs, interfaces, alternative options, solution recommendations, and potential risks.


To thrive in this role, you'll possess:


  • Solid foundation: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience) is required. Ideally, you'll be a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with a recognized professional engineering institution.
  • Technical Expertise: Possess a strong understanding of electrical engineering design principles and safety practices.
  • Power Distribution Prowess: Have experience with onshore and offshore power distribution systems, with a preference for dockyard environments.
  • Design Savvy: Have experience in the design of high voltage AC and DC distribution systems, including substations (equipment selection, layout, control & protection).
  • Standards Champion: Demonstrate a solid knowledge of relevant regulatory standards (e.g., IEC).
  • Communication Champion: Possess excellent communication skills, including the ability to deliver clear and convincing presentations, actively listen, and clarify information when necessary.
  • Independent Operator: Be able to handle discussions and technical communication independently.
  • Team Player: Thrive in a collaborative work environment.

  • Familiarity with client-specific tools, methods, and templates (training provided).
