Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance is a forward thinking, contemporary and world-class Higher Education Institution with a vision to redefine the conservatoire for the 21st century.

The Faculty of Music accounts for over 600 of the higher education (HE) students within Trinity Laban and delivers programmes of study for students from pre-degree to doctoral levels through an innovative combination of practical and academic studies through which it seeks to impart in its students the skills needed for a dynamic and sustainable career in the music profession.


Module Leadership hours: 15 hours

Teaching Hours: 6 Hours (1.5 hrs per week x 4 sessions)

Assessment: 17 Hours

Creative Research Pathways Level 5

Creative Research Pathways provides students with opportunities to broaden their awareness and understanding other employment possibilities within the industry, through an exploration of the roles of "Creatives" (i.e. Director, Music Director, Choreographer) and "Writers" (i.e. Librettist, Composer, Lyricist) whilst building on their knowledge-acquisition and usage of research skills explored within Creative Research at Level 4. They will be encouraged to develop practice-based research methodologies whilst developing and shaping your own creative identity as a maker of musical theatre

On completion of the module students will be expected to:

  • generate "new" ideas for performance, as a Creative or Writer
- create, shape, and/or inform a performers' work as a Creative or Writer
- plan, execute and deliver practice based research

  • Communicate research outcomes in an appropriate manner
  • Recognise the academic standards required of journal based research
- appreciate the differing perspectives of Creatives, Writers and performers.

  • Engage with research in a positive spirit of curiosity and discover
  • Recognise the value of practise based research
- demonstrate further knowledge and understanding of the different roles of Creatives and Writers
- understand the working methods of Creatives and Writers
- understand how creative research underpins creative work


Following success in the Institution's first formal research submission (REF) our strategic priorities are the development of a practice-led research hub with specialisms in creative practice/performance, performance science and performance pedagogy as well as text-based research in our disciplines; the further integration of our research and knowledge exchange/public engagement programmes; and increasing our research collaborations, seeking particularly to engage international partners.

The Faculty of Music is committed to encouraging research-informed teaching; you will be encouraged to develop your skills in line with this ethos.


Educated to at least Masters degree-level (or equivalent), you will have proven higher music education teaching experience, strong or emerging research interests in musical theatre, outstanding communication and organisational abilities, excellent IT skills and the capability to deal with a busy and varied workload, within a highly creative environment.
