We are looking for an experienced individual, to provide supervisory administrative support for Radiation services and support the efficient day to day running primarily of the radiology department. The lead clerical administrator and clinical trials support is responsible for all receptionist duties, including scheduling of patient appointments and often being the first point of contact for visitors, taking a lead role within the clerical team and supporting the clinical trials administrative duties.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work closely with our Radiographers, Radiologists and other clinical and clerical staff in the provision and supervision of general clerical, administrative and secretarial duties, largely including data input for Radiology requests into RadIS departmental booking system. Knowledge of a wide range of administrative policies and procedures and advance use of various IT packages and non-routine problem solving associated with patient appointments and associated treatment schedule is essential, as is having knowledge of clinical trials processes.

The successful candidate will have extensive administrative/secretarial experience, excellent IT, communication skills and will be amenable to learning new systems of work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Lead role within the administrative team, supervising staff, creating and implementing new policies and procedures.
  • Data input for Radiology requests into RADIS (radiology information system) departmental booking system.
  • Scheduling of patient appointments often interpreting complex clinical data to enable appropriate booking time.
  • Dealing with complex and sensitive questions regarding patient appointment.
  • Support clinical trials admin team, act as a link between radiology and clinical trials for bookings and image transfer.
  • To act as first point of contact for patients and relatives entering or contacting the Radiology department.
  • To comply with all aspects of confidentiality and Information Governance.
  • To accurately input data on various IT systems regarding patient details and various test results
  • Maintain filing systems and prepare worklists for daily schedules.
  • To provide word processing clerical and photocopying support as necessary to any area of Radiation Services Directorate.

  • NVQ level 4 or Equivalent level of relevant experience
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification – International standard for conducting clinical research.
  • Excellent knowledge of software packages (ie Microsoft)
  • Excellent knowledge of Patient Archive Communications System (PACS)
