Role Purpose:

The purpose oftheSEND Specialist Teacher roleis to:

• Promote and sustain the inclusion of children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their local, mainstream schools and educational settings
• Support the development of robust, evidencebased, effective pedagogy and curriculum for CYP with SEND
• Build capacity within educational settings to ensure that CYP with SEND have their needs identified and assessed as early as possible
• Undertake specialist assessments for CYP with the most complex needs, as part of a graduated cycle of assessment, planning,doingand reviewing their support
• Ensure a continuum of provision for CYP with SEND across the borough so that they haveaccess to the right support, at the right time and in the right way
• Uphold the legal obligations and principles enshrined in equalities law so that all CYP with SEND are free from discrimination and can live their best lives
