You'll be developing business, data, software, and integration architecture standards to manage processes, systems, and technology complexity across the HSBC Group.

Through dynamic, agile collaboration you'll work closely with business partners to translate their requirements into integrated solutions that can be deployed globally using consistent service patterns for ease of deployment, support, and enhancement.

The Core Banking Modernisation Delivery lead will lead the technology delivery of a new initiative to modernise our Core Banking estate and deliver new foundational capabilities that introduce standardisation, interoperability and allow technology plug and play.

The role holder will drive the delivery planning and deployment of a number of products and their associated architecture to support multiple banking customer products.

They will do this via a new team of technical product owners, architects, system analysts and engineers.

The product deployment will commence in 2024 with a pilot and subsequently need to scale both within a market and to selected other markets.

They will have excellent stakeholder and team management experience and significant technical planning and communication skills at all levels within the organisation.

They will be able to work in a dynamic environment and understand the criticality of banking products and associated regulatory concerns.

The role holder will work closely with Enterprise Technology leadership and with the business to ensure this new Core Banking set of platforms meets the business requirements whilst ensuring the new platforms align with the long-term architectural vision.


The Core Banking Modernisation delivery lead will drive change initiation, design and delivery and are accountable for successful delivery of both technology and business change and ensuring benefits realisation.

They operate at an executive level and engage and influence a wide spectrum of stakeholders and partners across HSBC.

The remit area will initially be single market-based in UK but may extend regionally or globally, and will cross multiple Global Businesses and Global Functions within HSBC.


The role holder will have the following responsibilities:

  • Drive HSBC's Core Banking modernisation technology programme delivery proactively, balancing scope, schedule, interdependencies, budget and risks
  • Develop Core Banking Modernisation technology strategy and delivery methodology for initial and future markets. This will include platform selection, transition and migration strategies.
  • Obtain buyins from and influence stakeholders for all key technology plans, commitments, changes including requirements, quality assurance plans, budget, schedule, scope, risk mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Report progress, issues, dependencies and risks to senior technology and business leadership and steering committees and make recommendations to influence decision making in order to maintain progress towards delivery and benefits realisation.
  • Monitor and report on technology performance and progress to stakeholders, oversee the tracking of risks/issues/dependencies and take remedial actions where required.
  • Ensure all agreed technology costs, quality and delivery commitments to stakeholders are met.
  • Work with business stakeholders to ensure the decomposition of complex business requirements into Epics and User Stories can be delivered by technology teams via respective backlogs with minimum cross product coordination.
  • Drive platform best practices, engineering and service quality excellence through all aspects of the delivery and the use of Agile methodologies within technology teams (e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Lean).
  • Lead the definition of technology resourcing, responsibilities and schedules. Optimise technology team and capacity.
  • Lead the establishment of effective technology programme controls and procedures. Drive the adoption of HSBC technology standards and work in alignment with HSBC Change framework at all times.
