We are looking to recruit individuals to join our team of Exam Invigilators.

Invigilators are used across the business to aid the effective organisation and running of internal assessments, and external formal examinations under the guidance of the Examinations Officer.

Key Responsibilities


The primary role of the Exam Invigilator is to assist the examinations team in the correct running and supervision of assessments and examinations including, when necessary, assisting with the preparation of examination rooms, completion of examination paperwork, attendance registers, invigilation reports and collation of examination documentation.


  • Support learners in a calm and approachable manner whilst maintaining examination integrity.
  • Assist in the preparation of the examination room ensuring that it meets the JCQ requirements.
  • Monitor learners' attendance and behaviour in the examination room carefully and ensuring compliance with procedures and regulations is followed.
  • Invigilate computeraided assessments and additional exam requirements sessions as required following training at an appropriate level of experience.
  • Act as a reader, scribe or prompt for allocated learners as directed and trained by the Exams team.
  • Attending training when required in order to keep up to date with new procedures and regulations

Job Details

  • To be responsible for opening exam papers and authorised materials and to distribute these to learners in accordance with the examination rules and regulations.
  • To attend to late learners quickly and efficiently with minimum disruption and in accordance with the examination rules and regulations.
  • To notify learners of exam start and finish times ensuring that efficient timekeeping is maintained.
  • To record all start and finish times in accordance with the examination rules and regulations. To ensure learners have clear sight of a clock within the exam venue.
  • To respond to queries regarding paperwork and administration in accordance with examination rules and regulations.
  • To contact the examinations manager in the event of learners raising concerns or difficulties in respect of an examination paper where a professional judgement may be required.
  • To report any concerns regarding the conduct/ administration of the examination to the exams officer.
  • To supervise learners in a quiet and unobtrusive manner.
  • To notify the examinations manager of any disruptions that may occur.
  • To ensure that examination is carried out strictly in accordance with the guidelines set out by the Joint Examinations Board.
  • To arrange for the supervision of any learners who may need to leave the room in accordance with the exam regulations.
  • To ensure that exam conditions are maintained until learners are dismissed.
  • To collect and collate examination scripts ensuring no documents are left unattended at any time and are promptly packaged and or delivered to the exams officer/person responsible for examinations.
  • To ensure that the room and desks are clear of unauthorised materials and in good order.
  • To remain aware of, and adhere to, applicable rules, regulations, legislation and procedures including the Equal Opportunities Policy and Code of Conduct, and national legislation (including Health and Safety, Data Protection).
  • To maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for Acorn Training.
  • To maintain an awareness of Child and Adult at Risk policies and procedures and other safeguarding related matters.
  • To adhere to all Acorn Training policies and procedures as relevant to the role including professional dress, use of social media and expectations for professional conduct.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications/Skills

  • Satisfactory DBS check
  • Full, clean driving license and access to own vehicle with business use insurance.
  • Qualified to grade C/4 at GCSE level or level 2 Functional Skills in both English and mathematics.
  • Experience in basic administration.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills

  • Previous experience in invigilating or supervising examinations.
  • Experience of working with learners with learning needs.
