The Role

Sitting within our Client Services department, you will be part of a talented team delivering great work. Our Account Directors workacross a diverse portfolio of clients,including shipping, insurance, finance, investment, engineering and mining – mainly across FTSE 100 and 250's but also large, global, non-listed organisations. Wedeliver integrated and strategic corporate communications across print and digital, including annual reports, sustainability reports, and wider communication channels. With strong digital experience, we're looking for an Account Director who is comfortable working across integrated communications with senior stakeholders, clients, and internal teams – leading on all client meetings, with the ability to truly listen to clients, challenge where appropriate and manage their needs effectively. Experience in corporate reporting, particularly with digital delivery, would be a strong advantage but general corporate communications experience would still be very helpful. Corporate website experience, rather than understanding of B2C sites is key.

Our Account Directors naturally upsell by instinctively understanding individual client needs. Commercial awareness is key, you will be able to scope, cost and confidently discuss and negotiate budgets with clients. Working alongside the reporting consultants and creatives, you will ensure content and creative output are on-message and on-brief.

Responsibilities

Primary tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead team in the delivery of a wide range of projects, proactively driving the projects forward and facilitating collaboration.
  • Lead a client team comprising of client services and creatives, working closely with resourcing and finance to ensure delivery on time and on budget.
  • A good knowledge of digital – including content creation and development. Working closely with a Senior Account/Project manager on a daily basis – on SLA's and regular client comms – keeping client up to date on progress and pipeline delivery.
  • Oversight on monitoring project board (Trello/Confluence) and progress of tickets. Will include regular/weekly client status calls etc.
  • Comfortable leading client presentations/pitches/kick offs and creative. Able to create/contribute to presentation decks to support this.
  • Supporting the Digital Director in leading the client through complex digital projects and directing the consultancy, content, project management, creative and development teams.
  • Confidence in managing client expectations/ambitions and balancing these with the practical business and commercial needs of Gather.
  • Able to negotiate sensitively with challenging clients.
  • Lead client meetings and brief internal team members on expectations/requirements.
  • Ownership of client accounts including some with multiple workstreams as day-to day contact.
  • Build and own client relationships based on trust and mutual respect.
  • Develop an in-depth knowledge of your clients' businesses.
  • Support in developing and understanding client comms objectives and comms plans.
  • Understand the importance of strong risk management, being able to spot potential pitfalls and advise accordingly with a focus on solutions.
  • Provide strong vision and leadership with the team, with partners and, above all, with clients.
  • Interrogate client briefs, using initiative, business acumen and have the confidence to challenge clients where necessary.
  • Guide, train and mentor the junior members of the team, acting as a positive role model at all times.
  • Ensure all project management processes, and quality assurance are implemented throughout all projects.
  • Create detailed, watertight scopes of work and review throughout the project to ensure alignment with client needs.
  • Ensure the production of timely and accurate project documentation such as costing sheets, contact reports, schedules, SoWs, estimates, invoicing schedules, and invoices.
  • Manageresource effectively against schedules and workloads, ensure all work is delivered on time.
  • Ensure financial processes are followed, and have full commercial responsibility and financial accountability for your accounts.
  • Develop relationships with clients and actively identify and pursue organic growth opportunities to deliver against revenue targets.

Key skills, competencies & Experience

  • At least 5+ years' experience either agency or client side, some as an Account Director, with experience in corporate and strategic communications.
  • Experience of sizeable 'from-scratch' web builds and/or corporate websites (required) and/or B2B digital comms.
  • Exemplary digital project management skills with a flexible blend of traditional and agile methodologies e.g. PRINCE2 agile (or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Technically savvy and digitally literate – comfortable liaising with developers, reviewing functional specs, CMS literate knowing your php from your .net and your GDPR from W3C.
  • Good project planning, documentation and costing skills – fully confident in drafting all documentation, scoping and functional specs for clients and tech teams to ensure clear communication, efficient briefing and great commercial management.
  • An understanding of UX to be able to brief and manage UX consultants.
  • Experience in managing third party suppliers.
  • Entrepreneurial skills, continuously on the lookout for new business opportunities and ways to pre-empt client opportunities
  • Client service expertise – able to develop and manage key client relationships. Someone who is not afraid to corridor-walk and build bridges to quickly secure new opportunities.
  • Strategic and business acumen, including the ability to spot value-generating opportunities.
  • Confidence in interrogating client briefs, using initiative and challenging clients where necessary.
  • Understanding the importance of strong risk management and project management approaches, balanced with strong client service sensibilities.
  • Selling skills to ensure organic growth and new business, in addition to negotiation skills and ability to manage difficult conversations and close deals successfully.
  • Financial control through accurate forecasting against revenue and profitability targets.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership with the team, partners and, above all, with clients.
  • Successful track record of building exceptional client relationships and delivering value to clients and the agency.
  • Efficient and organised with a strong client service ethic.
  • An insatiable appetite to learn and grow.
  • Collaborative and approachable, easy to work with and thrives in a team environment.
  • Broad understanding of corporate reporting, latest reporting regulations and best practice trends would be an advantage.
