Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time – 37hrs per week

Starting salary: £27,789.00 plus market supplement of £1250 per annum

Closing Date: Sunday 16th June 2024 at 23:59hours

Do you want to make a difference in keeping Hampshire and the Isle of Wight safe?

Our 'Research & Analysis' teams are looking for FIB Intelligence Researchers to join them. These teams are critical in helping Hampshire & IOW Constabulary with their purpose of making 'You, Your Family, and Our Communities Safer' by working together with intelligence officers to support the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) in the identification of prolific, organised offenders and of serious and organised crime.

As a researcher, you will work in a busy team with other researchers and analysts, under the management and direction of a lead analyst.

About the role

As an FIB Researcher, you will assist in identifying where serious crime groups are operating, and where those vulnerable to this type of criminality are located. Your part will be to respond to requests for research assistance from the Analysts and Intelligence officers that you work alongside, as well as other key internal and external stakeholders, by collating, reviewing, evaluating and then disseminating information from a variety of information sources.

You will then assist managers in directing our specialist units to target and dismantle those groups.

You will be looking for trends in daily crime, incidents and intelligence to support the force-level responses to any issues that have the potential to cause harm, and for opportunities to safeguard and protect potential victims. Once you have identified any patterns, you will then produce maps and information summaries to support local and (if needed) force wide operations.

As part of the role, you will liaise with others involved in the intelligence process, including those working across police borders, to share findings and support briefings.

Your duties on any day may include:

  • Build and maintain relationships with others in the intelligence department and other Forces (as appropriate) to assist in problem solving and decision-making. Your research will focus on highlighting the key issues and answering the right questions in the most efficient and appropriate way.
  • Attend and contribute relevant information to FIB meetings.
  • Be a subject matter expert in research tools and techniques and use professional expertise to advise others across the force, through formal and informal engagement.
  • Promote the concept of 'evidence based policing' across the organisations and within the Research & Analysis team.

We provide training and professional development in police and research-based ICT systems. We support the building of subject matter expertise and police knowledge subjects.
