Our Space is looking to recruit a Centre Assistant.

The job role will involve welcoming and looking after groups that visit the Centre during the week, setting up our indoor and outdoor areas prior to sessions and ensuring that the whole premises is cleaned and tidied after each visit.

The role will also involve supporting our Head of Charity and Administration Officer with general office duties.

The post will be based at our premises in Stanier Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5 2SU.

JOB DESCRIPTION - CENTRE ASSISTANT

Salary:
£22,425 per annum pro rata (£9,568 for 16 hours per week).

Working pattern: 16 hours per week, worked over three days.

Position in the organisation:

The Centre Assistant is directly responsible to and reports to the Head of Charity.

Main purpose of job


To assist in the day-to-day running of Our Space by taking a key role in the support of and delivery of services to visiting schools and groups.

To provide office support to the Head of Charity and Administration Coordinator.

Duties and key responsibilities:

Support of Visiting Groups


1 To ensure the premises are prepared for school and group visits on a daily basis, setting up rooms and outdoor area before each visit.

2 To welcome visiting groups, ensuring all their requirements are met throughout their session. To include ensuring the premises are secure after their arrival and throughout their visit.

3 To ensure all visitors sign in on arrival and out on departure.


4 To ensure that all groups are familiar with any health and safety requirements, including the location of fire exit and assembly points, the importance of reporting accidents and the reporting of any damage caused during their visit.

5 To nurture good relationships with the staff and students of visiting groups.


6 To tidy and clean the premises as needed (including washrooms and changing facilities) between visits and after the last visit of the day.


7 During school holiday periods to support visiting groups as above, but also to support the staff team in the provision of specific holiday activities.


Office Support
1 To assist the Head of Charity and Administration Coordinator with general office activities as required.

3 To refer specific enquiries to the appropriate member of the team.

4 To record attendance at sessions (group visits, club sessions, holiday playschemes and family sessions) on the relevant spreadsheets.

5 To help maintain membership databases.

6 To do a weekly stock-take of provisions and to place online shopping orders. To take delivery of orders and to store purchases in the relevant places.

Other
1 To support in the preparation of activities (particularly craft activities) for our club and family sessions.

2 To adhere to all the Charity's service standards, policies and procedures.

3 To comply with data protection regulations, ensuring that information on all visitors and members remains confidential.

4 To be responsible for personal learning and development. To attend training as required.

5 To work in a manner that facilitates and promotes inclusion, particularly of people who have a disability.

6 To organise own work to ensure that it is accurate and time efficient.


7 To be aware of and comply with financial procedures, including cash handling procedures and accurate recording of financial information.

8 To support the team with fundraising events.


9 To undertake any other tasks or duties which may arise from time to time as designated by the Head of Charity.


Anticipated work pattern:

16 hours per week to be worked over three days between Monday and Friday

Usual hours will be:
Monday 9.30am till 3.00pm (including half hour unpaid lunch break)

Tuesday 9.30am till 3.30pm (including half hour unpaid lunch break)

Thursday 9.30am till 3.30pm (including half hour unpaid lunch break)

Person specification

Education and qualifications

  • Educated to a minimum of GCSE level, with a good grade in English.
  • Qualification in childcare or social care would be advantageous but not essential.

Experience

  • Experience working in a peoplefacing environment.
  • Experience of working in an environment that supports children, young people and adults who have a disability would be preferred.
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office effectively to manage daily business and to support record keeping.

Skills

  • An understanding of disability and of the needs of children, young people and adults who have a disability would be advantageous.
  • Must be an effective and confident communicator both in writing and verbally.
  • A genuine interest both in supporting children, young people and adults with a disability and their families and carers, and in the Charity's vision and purpose.
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills.
  • Organised, patient and reliable with high levels of personal integrity and confide
