About the role and what we're looking for:

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Analyse, diagnose and resolve technical and system issues in accordance with the councils' ITIL processes
  • Accurately and clearly document fixes to technical issues and update the IT knowledge base
  • Liaise with third parties and external suppliers to resolve issues, keeping track of all issues and related correspondence
  • Support the management of supplier relationships effectively to ensure the provision of effective support and resolution of any delivery/support issues
  • Write and maintain technical documentation in accordance with the councils' Information Management standards
  • Support testing and audit of new ITIL processes being implemented
  • Engage with staff to understand demand, aspiration, and opportunity


The duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.


About you:

Your essential skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Extensive experience of supporting IT services in a large organization and providing first and secondline support to complete incidents and requests effectively and to the users' satisfaction
  • Proven ability to communicate with colleagues with varying levels of ICT skills in pressured situations
  • Knowledge of IT troubleshooting techniques and ability to relay detailed instructions to users to assist with fault resolution, alongside a proven ability to use remote software tools for solutions
  • Ability to understand complex technical issues and their possible impact on business development and operational service delivery
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with colleagues and to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Proven ability to prioritize and categorize work to meet service delivery expectations
  • Ability to manage contracts with suppliers of business software and services

Your essential qualifications:

  • Familiar with the security standards and all relevant legislation that affects security
  • If you have the following experience or qualifications it's a bonus
  • Knowledge of the councils' processes and controls within an appropriate portfolio of services
