Assessment Officer

The Assessment Development Team develops and maintains assessment materials used to deliver GMC assessments. It's a fast-paced environment with lots of different workstreams to get involved in. Working directly with doctors, to support doctors, and uphold patient safety, makes for very rewarding work.

In this role at the GMC, you will enjoy variety in working with GMC colleagues, doctors and health professionals and make a positive impact protecting patients.

Summary of the role and main responsibilities

As an Assessment Officer you will get involved with and lead on various tasks, including:

  • staff management
- editing and reviewing exam content
- managing assessment events where we work with associates to write, test and standard set material
- selecting content to be used in the exams
- processing results
- improvement projects
- running meetings and supporting our associates
  • Associates are doctors and other professionals who are contracted to work with the team to help us develop assessment materials and facilitate events.

You can find more detail on the tasks you will undertake, and the essential skills required for the role, in the job description.

Full time (35 hours Monday to Friday), flexible working options available. Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy, but we are a busy, events-based team.

This is a hybrid role between home working and office working, you'll work at least 2 days a week in the office, more when needed or if wanted.

Some travel to London and overnight stays are also required. The induction will be on the job with more office-based working initially.

You may be asked to work up to 5 days a week in the office during the first 1-2 months while training.

We recommend no more than 2 sides of A4 for the covering letter, but it can be more if required.

We will assess the information you provide against the essential skills required for the role and let you know whether you will progress to the next stage of the recruitment process.

GMC Benefits - Why work for us

We work with doctors, patients, and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors and those who train them need to meet and help them achieve them.

If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors may be at risk, we can investigate, and take action if needed.

You'll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people with several excellent benefits including:

  • 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
  • A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression
  • Flexible working patterns
  • Attractive salary that's reviewed annually
  • Discounts at 100s of high street and online stores
  • Discounted gym membership
  • Private medical insurance
  • Employee assistance programme
  • Cycle to work scheme for those wanting a greener commute
  • Bike lockers and shower facilities

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.

We are also committed to the Disability Confident employer scheme and support the requirements of the Disability Confident interview scheme.

If you have a disability and meet the cut-off mark for the essential criteria for this role as outlined in the person specification document, you will be offered an interview.

The GMC is a charity registered in England and Wales and Scotland (SC037750)
