We are seeking aSpecialist Biomedical Scientist is to contribute to the provision of health care to the people of the Cwm Taf University Health Board area. This involves the provision of high quality, reliable and efficient Cellular Pathology laboratory services, from the laboratory at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.

The post is on a fixed term basis until the 31st December 2025. Secondments will be considered, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake both routine and specialist analyses and laboratory procedures, and perform duties commensurate with the training and qualifications of an experienced HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist.

The post holder has supervisory responsibility for less experienced scientific and technical staff and for laboratory support staff.

The post holder is required to deputise for more senior staff during short term absences.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications/ Training

Essential

BSc accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. Registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). Documented evidence of on-going participation in CPD. IBMS Specialist Diploma, or equivalent level of evidenced experience, in Cellular Pathology.

Desirable

MSc in Biomedical sciences.

Experience

Essential

Clinical laboratory experience, commensurate with an experienced, HCPC registered, Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology.

Desirable

Experience of working with a networked pathology computer system. UKAS accreditation and quality management requirements.

Skills

Essential

Highly developed skills to undertake specialist and routine laboratory procedures, commensurate with an experienced, HPC registered Biomedical scientist. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills, able to explain complex information and results to service users. Ability to organise and plan own work/ organise work for less experienced and/or laboratory support staff Ability to make judgments and employ analytical skills to determine appropriateness of requests and laboratory testing.

Desirable

Team leader skills.

Knowledge

Essential

Knowledge of medical laboratory sciences and techniques commensurate with a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist. Specialist knowledge of cellular pathology. Knowledge of CPA/UKAS accreditation and quality management requirements.

Desirable

Knowledge of hospital specialities. Medical laboratory knowledge in more than one pathology discipline.
