A great opportunity has arisen at Cheffins for a
Full Time Senior Accounts Administrator to join our very busy team at the Machinery Saleground in Sutton near Ely.

This is a varied role and would be well suited to someone that enjoys working in a busy environment and someone that enjoys working with numbers.

What will it take to be successful?

  • Proven experience in an accounting role and enjoy working with numbers
  • Ability to deal with a varied workload and prioritise accordingly
  • Methodical in your approach to work
  • Excellent attention to detail as accuracy is important in this role
  • Happy disposition and great customer service skills as will be dealing with our valuable clients face to face
  • Able to work on your own initiative but you also really enjoy being a team player, as there are times when everyone needs to help everyone.
  • Strong IT skills including good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel

What will you be doing?


This role is a critical accounts function role within the department and you will be required to deal with all accounting functions relating to live and online timed auctions for our Machinery, On-site and Vintage department.


Main purpose/scope of the role:

  • Setting up a sale on our bespoke software and ensuring buyer and seller charges are correct for live and online timed auctions.
  • Entering client details and checking their VAT status.
  • Entering lot sold details during live and online timed auctions.
  • Invoicing for lots when sold, face to face at live auctions and following the end of a timed online auction.
  • Taking payments for invoices and recording appropriately.
  • Chasing unpaid invoices.
  • Dealing with VAT queries for overseas buyers, pre and post sales.
  • Dealing with all accounting queries relating to the auctions pre and post auction i.e adjustments, credits, refunds.
  • Producing seller statements following a completed auction and ensuring correct charges have been taken and payments produced.
  • Variety of administrative tasks for the department.
This role is office based and you would be working at the Sutton Machinery Saleground.

The normal work of hours are generally 8.00am to 5.00pm, with some flexibility but you will be required to work a bit longer on auctions days.

You will also be required to attend onsite sales at various locations throughout the UK and this may at times require occasional weekend working.

You would be entitled to time off in lieu for any weekends worked.
