Contract: 9 month contract, commencing September 2024

Location: Remote with occasional travel across East and West Sussex

Working Pattern : Monday-Friday, term time only, 37 hours per week

Actual Salary: £29,212 per annum

We are looking to recruit an exceptional Local Governance Manager

In the University of Brighton Academies Trust, the Local Boards supporting our 15 good and outstanding academies are an important part of our governance structure. This local tier of governance is the eyes and ears of the Board of Trustees and helps to keep the Trust connected to the communities that they serve.

This newly created role will lead a small team of governance professionals (clerks) in their work to support some of the Local Boards whilst also still fulfilling the role of Clerk to some Boards.

Key Role Responsibilities include:

Working with the Head of Governance and Admissions to provide high quality day to day management of the local governance Leading on the recruitment of local governance volunteers Advising on, and administering, some of the more complex tasks such as the review of decisions to exclude pupils or dealing with complaints at the formal stage. Leading and managing the performance and development of the Local Board Clerks and Governance and Admissions administrators Clerking support for a number of academy local boards

Key Skills and Experience:

Significant experience as a Clerk to a Trust, academy or maintained school Ability to take accurate minutes and maintain efficient record keeping systems Experience of understanding and interpreting complex documentation & discussion, unfamiliar issues and incomplete information readily Experience of advising on technical and policy matters to a diverse audience Knowledge of education legislation, guidance and legal requirements or commensurate ability to acquire such knowledge within a short time frame Fast, accurate word processing and presentation skills Ability to comprehend complex documentation and discussion Ability to support and implement procedures and operational practices

This role would suit an individual with recent experience of working as a governance professional in schools (maintained or academies) who would like to take the next step into management whilst maintaining a hands-on role.
