Job Description -Dispenser

Accountable to:
Pharmacist / Dispensary Manager

Principle Purpose:

To assist the Pharmacist in the Pharmacy business by ensuring the dispensary delivers a high level of customer service and operates effectively with regard to company policies and procedures.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Professionalism*a. Ensure understanding and compliance with the Pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures.

b. Ensure all prescriptions are dispensed and endorsed accurately.

c. Ensure the highest standards of professional service and care to our patients.

d. Respect confidentiality of information concerning customers in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

e. Complete all NHS paperwork accurately and on time.

f. Ensure that locum pharmacists are briefed in and follow company dispensary procedures.

g. Undertake the training required by the company to fulfil your role effectively, and ensure a high degree of professionalism.

2. Customer service*a. Ensure a prompt and efficient dispensing service.

b. Deal with customer complaints and dispensing errors promptly and efficiently in accordance with company policy.

c. Develop and maintain good relationships with local surgeries and nursing homes.

d. Actively provide healthy living advice at every opportunity.

3. Housekeeping*a. Ensure that the dispensary projects a professional image at all times

b. Dispensary shelves to be clean, tidy, and well organised with special attention to risk management guidelines

c. Ensure the floor is kept clean, and free from hazards, i.e. boxes

4. Stock Control*a. Maximise profitability through effective stock ordering
- both from correct sources, and in the optimum quantities

b. Ensure all orders are checked off accurately, and dispensary stock put out with care

c. Ensure a date checking procedure is maintained and recorded

The above list is not exhaustive. You may be required to perform other duties, those deemed reasonable by your manager.
