What will you be doing?

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Luton. The successful candidate will focus on the design and development of packaging solutions for electronic components used in aerospace applications. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical design principles, particularly for housing electrical wiring and ensuring effective cooling in aircraft systems.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Design packaging boxes for electronics with a focus on cooling systems in aircraft.
  • Develop and update designs for metallic packaging, considering and engaging in hands-on development including machining and tooling processes.
  • Update and retrofit existing box designs to meet new specifications and enhance performance.
  • Ensure designs adhere to regulatory and safety standards, particularly for aerospace applications.
  • Investigate design issues and develop innovative solutions to complex mechanical challenges.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement design improvements based on findings.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing teams, and other stakeholders to ensure design requirements are met and projects are delivered on time.
  • Maintain detailed design documentation, including CAD models and technical drawings.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and company protocols.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's Preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with significant expertise using CREO software for 3D modelling and design tasks.
  • Proven track record in the aerospace industry or a closely related field.
  • Experience with Teamcenter or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.
  • Strong understanding of metallic packaging design and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with machining and tooling is a bonus.
  • Experience in designing housing for electrical wiring.
  • Knowledge of cooling systems for electronic components in aerospace applications is advantageous.
