Job summary

The Pre Assessment service is looking for a enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) to be part of a small but busy team, based in Bronglais General Hospital.

The post holder will work in support of the qualified nurses to ensure patients are prepared for their surgery. The HCSW will contribute to ensuring patients are at their optimum level of health preoperatively and adequately prepared for pending surgery and discharge following surgery.

Although the post holder will at all times act as directed by the registered nurse, they will be competent to work without continual direct supervision within a framework that has been agreed by the Senior Sister.

Prioritising and organising daily workload in conjunction with the qualified nurse, maintaining confidentiality of information throughout the full range of duties involved. Co-ordination of the patient through the speciality assessments in a timely manner ensuring waiting time in clinic is kept to a minimum.

Provide administrative support to the team by updating computer systems with outcomes, filing relevant information and any additional administrative duties as required. To carry out duties in a confidential and discrete manner. Communicate effectively with all team members ensuring the qualified nurse is kept informed at all times.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

Preparing notes and relevant paperwork in preparation for patients attending clinics.

Carrying out baseline assessment of the patients' body mass index, blood pressure, pulse, blood glucose, peak flow and urinalysis report any abnormalities or change in patients condition to the qualified nurse.

Carrying out venepuncture ensuring only the relevant bloods are taken as agreed by the qualified nurse/local policy.- Ensuring MRSA results are reviewed and when necessary communicate results to Infection Control/ primary care/ Waiting List Management in line with guidance. Ensure that the patient understands the procedure for the follow up process following a positive MRSA result.

Liaising with relevant waiting list co-ordinator and personnel as necessary

Being responsible for the ordering and regular checking of stock. Carry out routine office duties as required. Answer phone, record and pass on messages as required. Carry out daily checks of the blood glucometer boxes and record results. Undertake the monthly Quality control tests.

Assisting with the compilation of the care pathways and documentation packs.

Chaperoning doctor as required.

Providing support to new members of staff.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
