  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Technical Specialist to join the National Permitting Service's (NPS)
Financial Provision Team - part of the Waste permitting regime.

Through your work you'll help to reduce the risk to the environment posed by some of the country's largest waste disposal sites.

This is a national team, undertaking work for sites across the country.

You'll be a key part of the Financial Provision team, working alongside the Principal Permitting Team Leader (PPTL) to deliver technical leadership, solve financial and legal problems and make technical decisions.

You will use regulatory powers within the Environmental Permitting Regulations (EPR) and work with area operational teams on compliance and enforcement.

You'll pro-actively manage a full workload, seek support and escalate issues as appropriate, to deliver to a high standard. You'll have excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external partners. You must be prepared to have detailed and difficult conversations and be able to clearly explain your decisions.

You'll have the opportunity to develop your skills, expertise, and career in this important regulatory environment - coaching and mentoring other team members, looking for ways to make efficiencies and being open to change.

  • Permitting is the foundation of regulation, and crucial to the economy, people and wildlife. The team sits within the NPS, working alongside the permitting and operational teams. The team establishes and maintains financial instruments to ensure operator's permit and financial obligations are met.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of landfill permitting
