About the Service/Department


Highbury Grove Recovery House (HGRH) is a recovery focused and psychologically informed 12 bed residential house where adult residents of Islington and Camden can stay for up to 14 days, if they are experiencing a mental health crisis.

During their stay residents can expect high quality, non-clinical support from trained Recovery Workers and Re-settlement and Re-integration workers to reduce their crisis and make plans to avoid future crisis, using a range of interventions including; 1-1 support, safety plans, wellness & recovery action plans and social prescribing.

Recovery Workers support the people using the service link in with statutory and other voluntary sector providers and access the local community.


About the role


The main purpose of the role is to provide excellent, high quality support and interventions to those staying at HGRH who are experiencing a mental health crisis.


You will support individuals throughout their stay by carrying out support and interventions in line with organisational values and the ethos of recovery and co-production, as well as in line with policies and procedures.

Some of the main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To carry out individual one to one sessions with service users and support them to develop their own wellness recovery action plan and safety plans
  • To maintain accurate records of service user visits, support and interventions provided and any outcomes
  • To signpost and refer to other appropriate local services to meet service user needs
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with external stakeholders such as crisis teams and teams within the local authority
  • Assist individuals on their journey to recovery by developing and leading wellbeing sessions and groups
  • To assist in the promotion and development of the service

About you

  • An understanding of recovery approaches and the principles of recovery
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to support with the induction of new peer staff, students and volunteers
  • Ability to engage clients in assessments and 11 support and to coproduce, implement, record, review and audit support and safety assessment plans
  • The ability to create and deliver activities with clients which help them reduce anxieties, develop their confidence and selfesteem and help them to plan for a selfdefined recovery journey
  • The motivation to maintain consistently high delivery standards and service user standards, even when faced with unpredictable behaviour and potentially challenging situations
  • Knowledge of wider legislation to support people in a MH crisis including welfare reform, the Care Act, Housing pathways
  • Good knowledge of MS Office systems, able to use computer systems including case management systems Excellent stakeholder relationships building
  • Ability to work flexibly, including during the evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Although it is preferable for you to have experience of supporting people with mental health and complex needs, full training can be provided
