Position: Head of Culture Collections

Company: Culture Collections

Culture Collections, a leading biological resource centre, supplies Cell lines, Clinical specimens, bacterial strains, viral strains, and fungal strains to scientists globally to support Public Health.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the sections within Culture Collections.
  • Provide expert scientific leadership for strategic development and operational service delivery.
  • Manage the budget and contracts to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure highest standards of Quality, Health and Safety, and Governance.
  • Review platform use and implement new equipment for service improvement.
  • Ensure staff and facilities operate within Health and Safety regulations.

The post holder will have comprehensive leadership over all scientific and managerial matters, overseeing all staff at Porton and Colindale sites. They will provide management and strategic leadership to a multidisciplinary team responsible for providing Biological Reference Materials. Additionally, the role involves managing laboratories, regulatory functions, and maintaining accreditations.


Location:

This role can be based at either Porton Down or Colindale laboratories with an expectation to travel to both sites.

Working Pattern: Full Time


Essential Criteria:

  • BSc in biological or biochemical science; PhD or equivalent experience.
  • Senior management experience in biologicals business.
  • Demonstrated business growth and development through strategy implementation.
  • Understanding of business finance and budget management.
  • Experience in laboratory quality assurance schemes like ISO:17025.

Desirable Criteria:

  • MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience in managing culture collections or reagents manufacturing.
  • Experience in managing technical and commercial activities.
