Job Title:
Health Care Assistant (Various Levels)

Department:

Salary range:

  • HCA no qualification starts at £21,762 per annum
  • HCA Level 2 starts at £23,314 per annum
  • HCA Level 3 starts at £24,624 per annum
  • Incremental reviews take place on an annual basis.

Hours of work: 150 hours over a 4 week period (approximately 37.5 hours per week). A long shift is 12 hours. You also have the opportunity for enhanced payments for additional hours worked, and to join our 'Flexible Workforce' (Putney Bank).

Summary Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability
The RHN is an independent hospital and medical charity.

We care for people who have brain injuries and require assessment and intensive rehabilitation for conditions such as Huntington's disease and prolonged disorders of consciousness.

Our specialist servicesinclude a ventilator unit and a neuro-behavioural unit.


We help those with the most complex of health needs and disabilities including degenerative or progressive conditions as well as providing palliative care.

The patients we support usually have complex physical challenges alongside their neuro-disability.

We Are Seeking


We are seeking caring, compassionate, and skilled Health Care Assistants to support our Nurses in delivering high standards of care to our patients and residents.

You will act as an associate support worker for an identified group of patients under the supervisionof Registered Nurses or Nurse Associates.

You will learn about Brain Injury including mental health, dementia and learning disabilities, as well as understanding 'Quality of Life' including 1:1 care and escorting.


Health Care Assistant Key Responsibilities

  • To assist patients with all aspects of their personal hygiene care which will include; washing, bathing, dressing, continence and mouth care whilst enabling them to be as independent with these tasks as possible.
  • To assist with mobility including; hoisting, positioning and assisting with mobility aids.
  • To support patients with eating and drinking tasks, which may include the use of adapted feeding equipment, recording of food and fluid intake and feeding patients with an impaired swallow function.
  • Responsible for providing proficient communication with patients and others in challenging situations, which may include supporting patients with complex communication needs and patients who present with behavioural/emotional challenges as a result of theirbrain injury.
  • To participate fully in a 24 hour, 7 day week staff roster, including working Bank Holidays, as required by the needs of the service. Shift patterns may vary and include split days off. A high degree of flexibility is required.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 (Health Care) desirable
  • At least 6 months' experience in a relevant healthcare environment
  • Verbal and Numerical qualification i.e. Level 2 English & Maths desirable
  • Able to carry out manual handling tasks with patients that require complex care
  • A health or social care related degree or equivalent qualification desirable
