Bloomsbury Digital Resources is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Digital Product Manager to join the Product Management team on a Maternity Cover basis, reporting to the Head of Product Innovation for Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). The team is part of Bloomsbury Digital Resources within the wider Bloomsbury Academic and Professional Division.

As a Product Manager, you will have a pivotal role in a dynamic, growing, and friendly team that is revolutionizing Bloomsbury's academic publishing for the digital realm. You will work on industry-leading online products in HSS, actively contributing to shaping, developing, launching, and managing products within our esteemed suite of digital platforms.

The Role

To lead Product Management for a successful and expanding list of products covering various subject areas, such as Theology and Religious Studies, Music and Sound, and Food Studies. Your responsibilities will include ensuring products meet academic users' needs by delivering timely launches, content updates, and functional enhancements.

Product Development

  • Collaborate with Business Owners and Editorial leads to shape and develop new digital product ideas from concept to proposal stage
  • Act as the Product Management Lead during the Design & Development Phase of new products, defining product requirements, scope, and Minimum Viable Product
  • Conduct user experience research pre and post-launch to ensure products align with user needs
  • Utilize the Bloomsbury Publishing Platform to configure HTML pages for new sites, ensuring alignment with site layout and visual design
  • Perform User Acceptance Testing during product development, addressing bugs to meet requirements

Product and Content Management

  • Manage products post-launch to ensure timely content updates and enhancements within budget
  • Coordinate with external developers for site management and bug-fixing
  • Handle content requirements for new products, including data planning and loading
  • Work with partner organizations on content supply and data needs
  • Monitor sites for bugs and improvements, and respond to enhancement requests based on business priority
  • Provide regular website analytics reports and suggest content & feature improvements based on analytics

Product Representation

  • Serve as the 'product champion' to address queries from sales, marketing, and customers, contributing to the strategic development of products
  • Offer training and guidance on technical requirements to Editorial and other teams
  • Communicate new content additions and enhancements to sales, marketing, and customer services
  • Gather market feedback through user testing sessions, focus groups, and conferences

Strategic Planning & Team Development

  • Manage the Assistant Product Manager for HSS
  • Plan resources for the HSS product pipeline
  • Ensure consistency and best practices in user engagement, analytics, and reporting
  • Identify and implement process and workflow improvements

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in digital product management, with a track record of successful digital products
  • Understanding of the academic library market and systems
  • Knowledge of project management and development processes
  • Experience with web usage analytics and market research
  • Strong implementation and time-management skills
  • Keen attention to detail and a logical, problem-solving approach
  • Proficiency in editing XML and Content Management Systems
  • Understanding of web usability issues
  • Proactive attitude and passion for digital product management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
